Sort of off topic, but do any of you guys keep your own gas mileage?
I do a lot of small town, stop and go driving under 35mph. Probably only about 50-75 hwy miles per tank. Kept track this past tank on only got about 14.5....should I be concerned? |

There is an easy way to "induce" the problem. At least so codes get stored in the DME. If you pop your hood while the car is running and lift the locks on the coil packs it will disconnect it and you will get misfire codes in that cylinder do this for all of the cylinders. Then reconnect and disconnect them randomly. Should get you enough to get all the injectors replaced.

Issues after injector replacement
Well, I had scheduled my 30k service for this week. Regrettably I had to move up the drop off. Started running rough all of a sudden last Saturday and went into limp mode on the way to dealership. Got a call that injector 7 & 8 had become loose. (Or left loose during recent replacement) Yesterday I received the call that it was running great and I could pick it up. I'm out of town so didn't plan on picking up until tomorrow. Today I got a call that it when through an "additional QC inspection" and that shop foreman wasn't pleased with idle. HUH?!?!? He want's to "dig into it more". Keep everyone posted on what the outcome is.

I had the dealer diagnose this problem on my X5 and they said that the fault code they got was for a bad o2 sensor in bank 1...I dropped it off today for them to replace the o2 sensor...$550 for parts and labor.

New o2 sensor installed and I'm still getting the black soot and slow starts...I'm almost sure it's the injectors but the dealer said that there's no other fault codes after they installed the o2 sensor. How can I convince them that it's the injectors?

Ruh roh... So recently I noticed that our X5M does a 'slow' start as well. It seems to crank ok, but it sort of stumbles on initial start, almost making you feel like you want to tap the pedal and help it get up to idle speed. I did notice a fair amount of soot as well, but wasn't sure if it was just because it was an M thing or not...
After reading this thread, I'm concerned that I need to start discussing with the dealer on this. Would you guys agree that a slow/weak startup would be this same issue? It doesn't do it all the time, but typically after driving a bit. We do about 90% city driving. The hard part is that I just left home for a couple months for work. I have to leave my wife to handle this and hope the dealer doesn't try and blow her off...

I took my 2013 E70 50i in for excessive crank time, soot, and it also would sometimes go dead after backing up in reverse after coming to a stop.
They replaced all 8 injectors. The tech notes stated they found 2 faulty injectors on opposite banks which required them to replace all injectors since they are index 10 injectors. #1 & #8 were bad. They also during removal they found the vent line was defective and they replaced it. Not sure which vent line they are talking about. They replaced both of the HP fuel pumps because of a pressure drop off and leak back. I also had it in for a few other things, drivers side rear hatch actuator had seized up and had the hatch stuck closed. Replaced and repaired. My NAV screen's Anti-Reflective coating was coming off, they classified it as de-laminating. Replaced the display. Drivers Rear sunshade was coming apart where the strips are to keep it straight. Replaced it. I couldn't any more pleased with my SA and the staff @ Roadshow BMW!! |

The dealer replaced my exhaust tips a couple weeks ago due to "premature corrosion".

Copy that. They told me the strange bubbly residue around the edges is not covered under warranty. Shocker.

Crap. Everything in this thread is now happening to me (34k miles). Crank time slowing down. Now takes several seconds. Soot accumulation. Rich fuel smell. And now rough and low idle.

Is this a common issue with the tune, or any tune?
