odd problem/observation

Have you ever noticed sometimes, that when you make a new business associate/connection, that someone you're linked to, whom you are certain does not know your new business associate/connection, also connects to them?

There are 2 male associates whom I've noticed the behavior with. The pattern is when the new connection is female and attractive.

The reason I find it odd, is say you went on a business trip to Argentina, and you connect to your newfound business associates. You look at their profiles, and there is only 1 other person linked to them in common, after you just made the connection. There are two guys who are doing this. I just think it's rather funny in an odd way. And this only happens when my new connection is female, and attractive.

I just think with social media, I guess it mimics real life in a way....but again what I mean is you just connected to this person, and minutes later when you go to look at their profile, a certain person is also now linked to them. My guess is they're linking off of a status update that they see for me...

I used to work with a guy who trolled linkedin everyday, and would only send friend requests (or whatever they call them) to attractive women. They had nothing to do with our line of work, and he considered them "trophies". Before he understood how grossed out I was with the whole thing, he would show me his new "accepts" daily.

What blew my mind is just how many of these gals would accept him. They had no idea who he was, no idea why he was friending them, just that I guess he had a lot of connections so he had to be good. Social media is just bizarre, I thank God everyday I saw this coming back in the mid 90s and kept my name (for the most part) off all this crap.

I signed up to LinkedIn just so I could tell staff what it was. Now when somebody gets a new connection, I get an email telling me that. I could conceivably connect to all your new connections within the time it takes for me to receive the email.

LinkedIn: That social network you don't quite use for anything... Except random add requests. No comments, likes or whatever.

It's the only social network I'm on and I keep it simple. I barely use it but I actually got my last job through LinkedIn, when an old contact thought of me for a position and found me on there. So it isn't useless!

This is why I do not do LinkyDinky.

"Hey bro! Can i have a 1/2mil/yr job?"
"Hey, let's catch up someday." *5min into the meeting "I just got laid off today"

If I had a time to do LinkyDinky, I would rather get sponsor from county ____ Party committee to run for a city council/mayor/state rep/ state senate.

NO THANKS!

Linkedin is useless except for job hunting and primarily trolled by recruiters IMO. I've been in IT since the 80's. If I need or want a job it's pretty easy to do it the old fashioned way and call colleagues and tell them truth not oh how are you blah blah blah oh and could you do me s favor and find me a job crap. My Linkedin profile is incorrect and has not been updated in years because I would get 5-7 recruiters a week bugging me to either interview for their position or refer someone(which I do not directly do).

I love some of the technical groups and discussions, most of it is so elementary you wonder how the person asking or writing the blog got their position.
