2012 x5d maintenance package

My truck has 48,000 miles and i just bought it off lease. Trying to decide if i should get maintenance package for $2,500 (i already got it cpo'd). Any recommendations? I plan on keeping it for 2-3 more years and drive about 15-20k per year. When will brakes be done? What else will i be needing to do other than oil and diesel fluid changes? I have a BMW mechanic that does my work on the side for cash so i get pretty good prices for work. But still not sure if i should pass up on the package. Please help!

Generally speaking these packages are there to make the dealership more money, not to save you any. I wouldn't bother, personally. Especially if you can do things like an oil change yourself.

It's all about the brakes, plain and simple. Dealers tend to adhere pretty closely to the CBS when it comes to other service. Even if you'll need brakes, I would first see how much an indy would charge. If I was in your shoes I'd pass.

I'd second what others are stating. Brakes can be done for pretty cheap and you only will need them every 40-50k. I have the maintenance package only because it came with the car and it seems that it doesn't cover much.

Bmw quoted me 1100 to do a full front axle job. Indy does it for 700 using bmw parts. I only swapped the rotors on mine pads were good. Cost only 400

I have DIY'd brakes and rotors for less than $350. 5 hour job at most.

You need to squeeze in 2 brake jobs to make it pay off. Even 1 brake job won't let you break even

You can shop the price around on the extended maintenance plan and get it significantly cheaper than $2500. There is a guy that people on e90post recommend, i didn't go through him but he quoted me a price that was about ~25-30% cheaper than what I was being quoted by my local dealers.

Zimmerman rotors and textar pads is all you need to get OEM parts on your vehicle. You can buy these through plenty of online shops, my favorite being ECS Tuning, for a fraction of the cost of what BMW would charge you.

It sounds like most of you are saying 'no' to the maintenance plan - is that because most of you are DIY'ers? Or because you'd have to drive a ton of miles for the plan to pay for itself?

I was just offered the BMW maintenance plan today by my dealer - $1150 for 1 year or $2295.00 for 2 years. I'm not a DIY'er so I wouldn't be saving anything going that route, but our X only travels about 7K miles per year, so this seems like $ I'd never even break even on.

How much are brakes and fluid changes at dealer prices, roughly?

Our X5, over the last 30k miles, has only been in for 2 oil changes, 2 DEF fluid top-offs, wiper replacement twice all the way around. This is over the course of 18 months. Definitely not worth $2,500!

Whether you are a DIYer or not, the maintenance package is really not as good as one would think. You are better off taking that money and setting it aside for repairs.
