Yeah you aren't lying. Even with silver, it's a pain to keep shiny, especially that damn roof.

Brake Dust. I have never had a vehicle that brake dust was such an issue. BMW must use the cheapest pads they can find.

Nope...soft but not cheap. Harder the pad = poor brake performance

It's a bitch...we know... But they make it that way so u can stop...like right frickin now!

Try keepin 315/35/20's clean!

It take me as long to clean the wheels as it does to wash and dry the rest of the car, and then the wheels are dirty at the end of the driveway, and I hate it... but I would never go back to the day's of American and Jap stuff!

How are the 19's in snow?

My 35I is a sport pack with the 20 inch wheel package. As those don't work in snow, I also worked a deal for s second set of wheels and tires and got the 19 inch premium wheels with the michelin 255/50 19 latitude tour hp.

For those of you that have them, how well do they do in real snow? By real snow lets say 6 to 12 inches. Do i need to go out and get real snow tires? I have a very reputable local tire store that insists Nokian tires are the absolute best. Anyone know about them?

Do what I did buy a set of Akebono or Brembo ceramic pads. I installed them to my x50i with 20" wheels and they stay clean for two to three weeks of long drives. Only dirt is the road or rain grime.
Perfecto.

When ya order the pads...go ahead an order the rotors also...cause your gonna need them after you put ceramic on there.

Unmatched pads and rotors...bad idea. I'd be surprised if the dealer would even do it...to much liability!

Glad I don't live across the street from you...I would hate replacing my mailbox every time you backed out of your drive way.

Yes it is a fact that washing you car is equivalant to a strenuous gym work out - doing the roof rear end just jump on the back wheel and hold on the top rail - very easy - front roof - open front door and stand on inner floor -do mags last have a small seat available and sit down and clean properly with the music flowing you could also start drinking a beer now as most of the work has been done - by cleaning the car yourself you get to pick up all the road rash and body chips - I do it every week and have a nice cold beer while admiring the X5 when finished as you have done the job properly !

I think you're a little confused.
Not Carbon ceramic but just ceramic pads. 2 total different applications by far, carbon ceramic being carbon fiber based pads and rotors vs steel based with ceramic composite pad.
As far as your mailbox....you seem quick to judge a fellow enthusiast....
No worries.

Well when I here the word Ceramic I think "great for heat", but "hard as sh!t, extremely abrasive, & scratches all other materials", and when I think of BMW rotors I think..."to soft for ceramic".

I probably was a little harsh and maybe even talkin out my ars, but when I think about changing something like brake shoes, I generally look at the effects out to 80-100K miles.

And that's why I keep cleaning the filthy things every miserable frickin week!

Where did you find Akebono ceramic pads for front?

Try eagle one wheel clean...spray it on after a wash - on dry wheels. I was skeptical, but it really works...after 4 days of driving my wheels still look clean

Always wash the truck by MY HAND. Had many a vehicle go thru a car wash driven by people who don't give a damn. Spending $100K on a car; never let someone else drive or wash my car.

I use this stuff every wash. Works wonders, and I just posted in another thread the same suggestion. I have the 21" 128 wheels (chrome finish) and they will look immaculate for a few weeks, easy!

And I'd recommend sticking with the same pads that come with the car. If not OEM, then at least the same material. They are soft, and for a reason. Better stopping performance.

You can install RED break caliper covers for under $200 and enjoy break dust free BMW ;-)
