Just joining this part of Bimmerpost

Well, today was an exciting day.

Put in my order for a 2013 X6 ///M this morning!

I came off of a 2010 X6 35i in January when I traded it for my wife's new car. I loved my X6 and have really missed it. Being BMW-less this whole year has been difficult, but I somehow made it through.

My dealer was able to trade an allocation and said he thinks the order will start going into full swing in the next 24-48 hours. We finalized all the details and now I just get to wait hopefully no more than 5 weeks.

I will be doing Performance Center delivery, which I am really looking forward to as well.

Here's the build:

2013 X6 ///M
Monte Carlo Blue Metallic
Mugello Red Full Merino Leather
Driver Assistance Package
- (HUD, Rearview cam, auto high beams)
Premium Sound Package
- (Sirius, enhanced premium sound)
Rear Climate Package
- (Rear window shades, 4-zone climate control)
Cold Weather Package
- (Heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, ski bag)
Comfort Access Keyless Entry
Soft-close Automatic Doors
Nappa Leather Dashboard and Center Console
Piano Black trim
3 rear seats
Full LED Lights
Side-view camera
6-disc DVD changer
BMW Apps

I am so excited, I can't even contain it. Always wanted an ///M and this will be my first one. I also wanted another X6 after my first one, so hey, what the hell, why not just combine the two!

I did deliberate between a few cars, but ultimately this one won out.

First mods will be IND painted reflectors and maybe their Carbon Fiber side markers. Also I have been eyeing the BMW CF lip and spoiler as well.

I am into photography so I will definitely be taking lots of pics and do a photoshoot or two in some nice locations when I get the car. Of course, I will post them here

Looking forward to engaging with you all in the XBimmers part of Bimmerpost.

Hi, I noticed you mentioned a 6-disc changer in the package...hope you didn't have to pay too much for it.

I am actually surprised that they offered that feature these day caused you can actually copy your CDs into the idrvie HD.

Congrats on the new ride and the red leather interior...good choice.

Great choices - can't wait to see pictures. The ONLY option I didn't get was the cd changer (wish I had as I still love my CDs).

It's a $600 option. I have it in both of my Mercedes' and both my wife and I use them a lot. We also keep DVDs in there for the kids with the rear seat entertainment screens, so it's really convenient to switch movies on the go. I also still have lots of CDs and no time to rip them all and organize my music collection onto a hard drive.

I didn't get the X6 rear entertainment because it is crap. Only one screen and its smack in the middle of the center console where I like to put my elbow while driving. So I will be looking for aftermarket screens that I can get integrated with the head unit - anyone done this?

No idea, sorry. Are you sure "per center del" is what the option is called? Check again so we can try to help you. What was the context of how your dealer mentioned this?

Thanks Jess///M, yeah that was part of my thinking as I mentioned above. I opted out of the cold weather package and am starting to wonder if I should add it just to have. The only package I know I won't have regrets about is the Ventilated seats, because it locks you in to boring leather color choices

I think you are talking about BMW performance center delivery program offered in South Carolina (USA)

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ehicledelivery

Or you can take the European delivery at BMW Welt.

Good catch!

If it's Performance Center Delivery that bmw246 was referring to, that makes sense. Normally it's referred to by the acronym, PCD.

Do note, however, that the X6 is built here in the states in Spartanburg, SC, and therefore is not available for European Delivery. But you can do Performance Center Delivery with any BMW even after you did an ED with the same car.

Performance Center delivery allows you to fly up to Greenville, South Carolina to take delivery of your new car. They give you a "similar" car to drive around various track and driving exercises designed to help you learn about your new car's driving, handling, and braking. These include slalom, skidpad, braking exercises, etc.

There's also a BMW museum and I think you get to tour the factory and watch them put a BMW together.

Then you get to road trip it home!

This is exactly what I will be doing - pretty excited about it to say the least. By the time I get home to Florida, my new baby should be pretty much all broken in.

I'm still only unsure about one thing, which is whether you get to go out on the actual road course and actually drive a few laps yourself around the track. I'd love to do that. Either way I am sure it will be an awesome experience.

Well looks like I got confirmed today for a Jan 17th PCD for my car. Going to be a long 6 weeks.

First order of business is a radar detector, which I think I might need from day 1 for some reason

Couple of things...

ddk632
Unless you are in Southern Florida, GET the Cold Weather Package. The heated steering wheel is one of the best features on this truck. I bet you will use it more than you use the side view cameras (I've used mine once - coming out of a parking garage in downtown Chicago).

Next, the ventilated seats are worthless - so nice choice going with something colorful.

Regarding PCD - YOU get a car similar to the one you ordered. Others, who opted for a non-M X5/X6 get the M version for PCD. Nothing worse than getting in your brand new car and thinking "wait, where did all that power go?". Alas, you will not have this issue Note, you don't get to drive around the full track - but if I remember correctly, you get to drive around part of it (a small course). Still a lot of fun. You will get a hot lap in an M5 with one of the professional drivers - mark my word, it will be the best part of PCD Make sure you do the factory tour however - also awesome. You won't believe how many X6s they actually make compared to X5s - most go overseas however).

Do some searches on breaking the car in. Most "experts" say that the first miles you put on your vehicle make or break it (pun intended?) and driving it hard is much better than going easy (just go easy on the brakes). Note the X5M/X6M do not qualify for the 1,200 mile service from BMW - but it might not be a bad idea to do that if you own the car. If you are leasing, never mind

Thanks Doug_999,

The car is going to be my baby. So I will definitely do all the services, etc., even though it is a lease. My thoughts are that while I am leasing, I'm already getting attached to the car even though I don't have it yet. I've seen some articles about the next gen X6 and didn't like what I saw. If that's the case, I'll be buying out this car as a CPO at the end of my lease.

I've also been mulling over not ordering the Cold Weather package. I am indeed in South Florida, however I may do road trips to other states where it's colder. And I just feel I might regret not ordering the relatively cheap option and having it missing from an otherwise fully loaded car. So to that end, you've inspired me and I just emailed my CA to see if it's not too late to add the Cold Weather Package still and will update here on what he says.

As for PCD, yeah I realized there's no real track time but hey it's all good. I used to be a club racer in Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC) and have done lots of track days on different bikes, but I've never taken a car to the track. I did find a local group that does car track days here at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) and I think I might take the X6M to a couple track days.

On break in, this gets almost dogmatic and religious. I want to talk to some of the BMW guys at PCD and see what they say. Generally I've broken in a few Ducatis and kept within the RPM limits (mostly) but use the formula of varying RPMs, multiple gear changes, not staying in same gear at same RPM for too long, stop and go traffic, canyons (not in Florida, but in California where I'm from) and the like.

So not exactly taking it easy, but not riding the redline in every gear from every stop light either. I am thinking the same strategy should work for the X6M.

Honestly, my last 3 brand new cars, a 2009 SLK300, a 2010 X6 35i, and a 2012 GL550, I just bought them and started driving as I normally would with no regard to the break in and they have all been fine, with 40k miles on my SLK.

I am treating the X6M more like a high performance motorcycle than a regular car because I think it's in a whole different league than any car I've previously ever owned. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Really appreciate your suggestions, thank you Doug_999.

Oh and yeah, can't wait to do the hotlap in the M5. I almost bought one but decided on the X6M as I just couldn't get over the bland styling of the F10, and I love the X6 styling. And I can carry a stroller or a BBQ in it while smoking everyone on the way out of Costco's parking lot

Yea, I think you get it (breaking a car in). Here is what I was referencing
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

All - not trying to start a "debate" here about how to break a car in. I think BMW has reasons for what they suggest - alas, I'm just not sure what they are

ddk632 - the guys at the PDC will tell you that they have to break the cars in per BMW's recommendations. I would be however curious what they say off the record. Of interest is that none of them are BMW employees

Update: Cold Weather Package has been added! I updated the build in my initial post in this thread.

Thanks again Doug_999 for the inspiration!

I bet I'll use the heated steering wheel on my drive back from PCD in South Carolina the day I get my car.

Actually the break-in rule is pretty easy as comparing to the M3 and there is no need for break-in oil change.
Up to 1200 miles/2000 km - drive at varying engine and driving speeds...not exceeding 5,500 rpm or 105mph/170 km/h
Also avoid transmission kick-down mode...this can be easily done.

From 1200 miles/2000 km to 3000 miles/5000 km.
Gradually increased up to a continuous vehicle speed of 135 mph/220 km/h.
And I did try sport mode a couple of time during this period before i had winter tire on.

I guess the M Twinpower turbo engine needs less babying than a natural inspired engine
