I've included a picture of mine with the cut bumper.

Its looks like you are missing a plastic filler piece that fits in the new opening so you don't see metal in the cut out. What is the silver we are seeing -= the muffler? I have never seen that in any other picture of the OEM tow kit for the X5M.

I have Invisihitch on both of our X5's. Superior product for towing compared to BMW's own design IMO. I used to have the Curt on our 2010, but didn't like it sticking out plus it is rated lower towing weight (6,000 lbs vs 7,700 lbs) compared to Invisihitch. Here's good info on towing and hitch for our E70

I didn't see any pictures of the setup on pre-lci model, just the new LCI model. Do you have the pre-lci? If not does anyone? This setup seems real nice considering you could easily remove it and re-sell it when you sell the car. Modifying the bumper makes it permanent.

(I also do not like the length of the stinger on the Execuhitch - I like a short hitch and ball to keep the tongue weight right underneath the points supporting the weight, especially on a uniframe SUV. The Curt allows you to do that.)

I also highly, highly recommend getting a silent pin for pinning the hitch to the receiver for anyone who tows - locking that up reduces all the audible clunking you otherwise getting when accelerating and braking, which gets really annoying and unsettling in an SUV, if you're used to towing with a truck.

Overall been very happy with the Curt, feel it's the best overall design for function and price/quality.

Can you post pics of your hitch? I also have an M Sport so I'm interested in how it looks. Did you have to cut any of the M Sport bumper for the Curt?

I really don't right now, I'll try and remember tonight.

No real cutting of the bumper if I remember. Some of it may have been trimmed underneath if that makes sense - but it's not at all visible.

Will be installing the Execuhitch on my X5d this Saturday. Will post pictures and report on what I think about it.

you can see where they had to trim a bit of the bumper where it is unexposed to fit around the receiver. And the installer cut a hole into an adjacent area to stealth-mount the 7 pin socket. I'm very happy with it, much, much better than the OEM setup.

Yes, the 2010 is a pre-LCI.

Finally got around to posting pix of mine. I've towed my car to the track and shop multiple times without issue. Not bad for $375. The bumper cover was a pain but once you figure it out it's cake. I could do the install now in under 2 hours.

OEM hitch with "BMW" brake controller (trailer is currently surge). Trailer is 950lbs, car is 3K, tires a little more. Should be about 500lb tongue weight.

Tow Hitch Hack Job from the dealer!

I just went to pick up my car from the dealer and was horrified to see what they did!

Apparently this is the hitch and the recommended way according to BMW, although I cannot see how this is possible. I am waiting to hear back from them to see how they are going to fix this.

I thought I would get it done professionally by the dealer instead of going elsewhere but boy was I wrong!

I'm still in shock...the pain will come soon.
They are looking to see what they can do to fix it - they agree it looks like ass but I don't know what they can do...
I paid half of the $1625 for the job and wi pay the rest once they find an adequate solution.

That's what you get from people who think the guys on OCC can build a bike.. Hacks, all hacks, most of the MX guys I wouldn't trust to work on a boat anchor.. WOW.

Damn sorry man, that looks bad. Hopefully they can fix the bumper or maybe modify it someway to look more factory installed.

I have an M and had the dealer install my hitch, looks just the way it should from the factory. Maybe ask another dealer their opinion.
