Importing a 35d to Canada from USA
Hello owners
Anyone who has done this before can you please let me know whether I have to do any modifications or any thing else to get the Canadian emission test passed? Thank you in advance |

I Imported my 06 M coupe about 2 years ago and it was a very easy process, if you go to the RIV Canada site it has a step by step procedure, follow it and you won't go wrong. With the coupe I needed to have the day time lights turned on so I stopped off at a Bimmer shop in DC and had it done. I also asked them to check for any outstanding recalls which the did. You will need a letter of recall from BMW, BMW Canada charges 500 for it, when I was at the dealer in DC I asked them if I could get a copy of the letter and it was free. Just do your homework before you go down to get it. I bought my 2010 X5 in Canada last fall, I found that with the dollar difference it wasn't a huge savings anymore. The couple of grand I would have saved wasn't worth it. If you have more questions just ask. Good Luck.

I had a vehicle transported up to Alberta three years ago and used a customs broker called Cole International. I think they charged me $250.00 and took care of all the PPW.
The only thing I had to do is go to Canadian Tire and have them look at the daytime running lights and I think the speedo. No inspection as the vehicle was brand new. Then took all the PPW to registry office and all was good. |

I imported my 2011 X5d from California to BC in December. No duty and very simple process north of the border.
The local dealer has been a bit of a pain with respect to some basic servicing, but I think it's because it's not a local car. Great truck that I could not afford to buy locally! |
