extended warranty, where?

All,

My wife's 2010 X5 basic warranty will expire next year. Where do I purchase extended warranty for reasonable price? I got a quote from the dealer but the number is quite high.

Yr advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Its either bmw dealer warranty or you could shop around for 3rd party warranty service that will pay for your repairs BUT ONLY AT REGULAR SHOPS NOT DEALER

I am going to shop for extended warranty next year as well. I was recommended to get platinum coverage for best reliability. Try to get quote from diff dealerships as there is a huge margin on these.

The extended warranty should cost around $5500 that cover the engine, drive chain with limited cover which not the bumper to bumper at all.

The $2350 one is called the maintenance program which only cover the oil change, brake pad.
Kinda bs for the owner..

By the way anyone with the x5m got a 3rd parties warranty?

Just make sure that you read what it covers, but more importantly, what it DOES NOT cover ... (see attached EVP).

BTW, the attached sample contract document is not always shared with you until AFTER you have purchased and paid for the EVP contract. They will give you a bunch of promotional brochures and pamphlets that make it sound like EVERYTHING is covered (... but read the small print). This copy says SAMPLE but it is the exact same as the actual contract ...

Self insure is another option ... by that I mean you just set the equivalent sum aside (or invest) and use if and when necessary,

So, my maintenance warranty is coming close to expiring. Are you telling me that it is not worth extending??? Any others want to comment? TIA

We decided to extend our warranty only, not maintenance since most maintenance items aren't worth the cost of prepaying. The gold level warranty extension (like CPO coverage) was 3-4k after shopping around for the 7/100 coverage term. We've had a bunch of warranty issues on the X5, so the additional coverage was worth the peace of mind.

We didn't go with a maintenance plan b/c oil change intervals are a joke and the big sell was prepaying for a full brake job. I just replaced our brakes a few weeks ago and using quality, low dust Hawk pads and new sensors (rotors were within spec) the whole job was less than $300 in parts (even less if I had chosen cheaper pads). IMHO, it is just not worth it, especially with plenty of decent independents available if needed.

YMMV

Not so when working with Daniel. I emailed him for quotes and he included the sample in his reply.
