Sport and Sport Activity PKG

The Sport has 20's with mixed tires I am looking at. What does it do for handling and drivability with the larger tires on back? Can I put 275/40/20 on the back like the front?

I think it also has Sport Activity PAckage? H0w do they work together?

Thanks

Thanks again! Great site. So then the Sport Activity Pkg can be bought with either the Y Yoke 19's or the staggered 20's 275/40/20 and 315/35/20 in backI Imagine the wheel diameter is almost identical to not mess up the AWD?
The 20's with wider rears I am reading look better, is it upgraded handling and cornering? Could I put 275/40/20 on the rear also and run Conti DWS06 and ditch runflats? So I guess the question are the front and rear rims the same size width?

Getting pretty close to pulling the trigger. Great help!

Lots of people ditch the run flat tires due to the harsher ride quality especially with sport package. I'd say it's one of the best changes you can make.

As for the 20" wheels, the E70 X5 came with an option on sport package equipped vehicles, either 19" or 20". The factory 20" wheels came staggered with I believe 275 in front and 315 in the rear. You could technically run 275 all around and not have any issues with the awd system. The thing to note is that whatever you do, the outside diameter has to match between the front and rear tires so you can run different width wheels without issue. Just remember, staggered wheels typically offer performance advantages.

As for the running boards I wouldn't let this stop you from buying something you really want. If you decide they aren't for you it's pretty simple to swap them out for the smaller versions. In some cases you might even be able to trade with someone who wants running boards.

The staggered 20's are 20x10 and 20x11

Putting 275's all the way around might look funny on the rear with a stretched look to them. They will seat and seal up but they will be somewhat stretched (a tiny bit) on the rears

I would not recommend 275 all the way around on the factory staggered wheels. Plus it kind of defeats the purpose of the wheels being wider in the back.

Correct...the 35i Sport/SAV came with 19" style 335 (9x19F & 10x19R), with the 20" style 214 (10x20F & 11x20R) being optional. At least on the 50i, though different wheel styles, the 20's were a $950 option...not sure on the 35i? The 20's, I think, look much better, especially from the rear as the Sport will have the fender flares and even the 20's (11 inches wide in the rear) are still not flush without bigger spacers.

As for the aluminum running boards, those are a separate standalone option that have nothing to do with the Sport Package. The M Sport Package was not available with the aluminum running boards as it has a different body kit, otherwise those aluminum running boards are pretty common...but also removable.

Have fun choosing...huge 35i selection, though not so many with the SAV.

I have the SAV package on my 3.5i and it makes all the difference when I compare it to my brother's standard 3.5i. He does have the option of the multi-contour seats compared to my sport seats, but his are vinyl!

Just don't understand the dynamics why staggered wheels handle better? Thanks

More rubber on the road and changes understeer/oversteer dynamics.

^ This for sure, it will handle differently.
The 20" style 214 w/runflats vs 2008 335i with 18" runflats is a huge difference. I put non-runflats on the 335 and I don't have to swerve all over the place to miss potholes, the X5 with runflats is highly tolerable to me. I just wish there were more all season runflat tires to choose from.
If a minor difference in handling won't bother you then going square and non-runflats will work.
