Unhappy New e70 owner HELP with P0012 code

I usually don't post on forums, mainly browsw but I have been stumped. Ive owned an e30, e36, e46, e92, e85, and an e86.
I was previously an automotive mechanic and now I am a jet engine technician, so I have a large amount of knowledge when it comes to cars. but this time I've been stumped and could use some help!

So I picked up my 2010 x5 Msport at about 6k under blue book because it was at a dodge dealership and it had a check engine light.
so I get these two codes. p0012 and p1434
I've been doing a ton of research on this problem.
I've seen that it can be an intake cam sensor. so i order two of them and replace both of them. no luck
I saw someone have the incorrect oil which caused the vanos to freak out.
I got oem bmw oil and filter from ecs. no luck
Next step was to replace the vanos solenoids. I ordered two of them from getbmwparts.com. installed them. surprise surprise. no luck..

When I clear the code, start the car and drive, no MIL. but as soon as I shut the car off and restart it, the light comes right back on with both codes

I have ran out of solutions at this point.
I am reading online that the p1434 code is for the secondary air pump, i don't believe that the air pump would be causing a p0012 code, so i haven't bothered replacing that yet.

It runs fine and drives fine as well.

does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I was reading on another forum where someone had the same problem on a 530i. They replaced the sensors and the code came back. They took it in for repairs and the shop replaced the oil fill cap. They said there were some components broken inside the cap and it messed with the oil pressure. Don't know how accurate that is but stranger things have happened.
One other note, did this have the engine campaign done on the engine? You might check with a BMW dealer and see if it is done or not. Could be BMW will fix it with the N63 campaign.

I actually just did a search and there is a recall involving the vanos system, they said a bolt comes loose and causes vanos issues, I'll call today! Thanks for the idea!

Do you have the X5 with the V8 4.4? If you have the N63 engine there is a service bulletin campaign for fixing different potential problems with the vehicle. There is a thread on it here.

The OP never said initially what engine they had, but the 2010 didn't have the N63 engine.

Did you ever figure this out? I've got a P0012 code only. I was thinking cam sensors or vanos solenoids. Let me know what you ended up finding out.

I'm also getting the P0012 and I have read to check or clean the vanos sensors.
I haven't done that because I haven't researched where they are located.

I replaced both vanos solenoids, cleared the code, started the engine, no engine light. When I turned off the engine and started it back up, boom engine light come on. Now I'm thinking it's the vanos seals. I can tell you one thing the engine sounds like a diesel with the old solenoids, with the new solenoids it sounds great and the engine idles quietly.
