Question Advantage of Certified or CPO?

Hi there,
I just purchased my 2011 X5 35i with 25k miles on it. It is in warranty till 50k or Dec 2014 and I al;ready purchased maintenance upto 100k. So my question is how beneficial is to get my truck certified? What is covered in CPO and is it worth spending another 3k or so on it. And if I do need to get it certified can I still get it done before hitting 50k from any dealership or I have to the one I purchased from? The salesman strongly suggested me that it's just a waste of money and maintenance is all i need. Please share your experience using CPO warranty and advises.
Thanks

Your salesman is uninformed. Maintenance is cheap, but anything goes wrong with your car after 50k isn't cheap. Your BMW dealership offers extended warranty, which is better than CPO. CPO requires you to pay $50 per claim, but Platinum Coverage is good bumper to bumper (no co-pay and free loaner).

Just remember, those service dollars are highly negotiable. You might be able to get 30-40% what they quoted you. For you E70, expect to pay bout $3,500est. Good luck.

Don't waste your time with the CPO, my wife had it and it covers very little unless it is a defective part. Go with the Platinum coverage. All the dealers here give us a free loaner, even for an oil change on my wifes 05 330xi with 200k on it.

thanks for the info guys... but is it correct to say that I can get the platinum warranty anytime before hitting 50k or 4 years and also I can get it from any BMW dealer or the only one I purchased my car from?

I purchased my platinum at my local dealer, as I purchased the X5m out of state, but it must be done before it hits 50k mikes. The kicker for me is that only the platinum covered the idrive and nav units $$$$$

Yes, Maintenance covers oil changes, service intervals etc., Platinum covers repair and parts work. Just check for exclusions-like battery cables etc...

So the platinum only includes 6yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty? No free maintenance right?

you can get it for 5yr/100k o 6yr/100k and yes Maintenance is a separate package.. platinum warranty is same your factory bumper to bumper warranty which you have till 50k.

I should have clarrified that the quote I listed was for an X5M, which will have a higher cost associated with it that the other X5's.

I do not believe the cost goes up the longer you wait, as the warranty is still based on the 50-100k mileage range. I was not told it would be higher, and in fact the price was the same when I inquired at a later date.

Platinum, which I have, has $50 co-pay. I do get free loaner.

There is also 7-year, 70K miles option which is obviously a little cheaper (than the 100K miles one). I'm not putting a lot of miles on my X5 so that's the one I bought.

I saw another comment that someone had purchased from local dealer. You can buy it from ANY dealer. I bought mine from an out-of-state dealer as my local dealer would not discount the price at all. I did have to Fedex my key fob to out-of-state dealer though.

If you find a better deal than your local dealer, they will match. There's a ton of margin in these deals. I believe Platinum + doesn't have co-pay.

What is the 7-Year / 70k mile warranty called? I also put very little miles on my vehicle. what is the cost and what does it cover? Does it apply to an X5M? My vehicle was quoted by my dealer for the extended Platinum Coverage for $5700.

It's called BMW Extended Vehicle Protection It has a $50 deductible.

The brochure

Can't tell if the pricing is different for different X5 models. The "Customer Contract" gives no indication of that.

I actually bought the "BMW Platinum Extended Vehicle Protection 7-years/70,000 miles" and the "BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade" at the same time so I got a "package" deal. My local dealer wanted $7,000+tax. I got from Macon BMW (out-of-state) for $6,400. I'm sure I could have done better if I'd had time to get more than those two quotes (as I'd left the purchase too late)...
