2011 BMW X5M Details
Hi,
I just received my 2011 BMW X5M. I will update this thread over the next couple of weeks with details. For now, see below: 1) No 6-disc CD/DVD any more (this used to be there in 2010 X5M) 2) The rear Tail light is LED, however, the turn signals in the rear or the brake lights are NOT LED. 3) Compared to 2011 regular X5, the rear taillights are the same matching ones. 4) The front angel eye lights are not WHITE rings as in 2011 X5. They are the same as last year. 5) No other major changes internally. 6) The Navigation is now fully directly via Satellite (meaning MAPs are downloaded via satellite) 7) The side M-markers do work :-) (There was a recall on this for 2010) 8) Mine is Carbon Black color and it looks almost as if it is Black. 9) I had ordered the camera package, however the front cameras are not there as for 2011 X5. So, its the same as the 2010 X5M camera package. Once you set the M-Mode; the sound changes and it is fantastic to drive. Just watch out for MPG. -Kappaerachi |

10) The IPOD interface does not charge the IPOD. You cannot copy the files from IPOD to HD. The HD is only 13Gb.
11) You can copy the CD to HD and then export the music to USB. -Kappaerachi |

2010 X5M
I have the 2010.
I tried to find one with no options, but no luck. Hence, I ended up with the optional cd/dvd player in the glove compartment. Real waste of money, given the fact that you can copy CD's to the hard drive and play them from the Music Collection list. Supposedly, there is a sound quality upgrade with that option - all I know is the unit is the best I've ever heard in a car. I have the Sapphire Black Metalic. Compared to the Carbon Black, I think the Carbon has a bit of a bluish tint to it in the sunlight (like carbon paper from years back), while the Sapphire is a lighter black with a touch of metalflake. Both are undiscernable in lower light situations, IMHO. |

What kind of iPod are you using? It should charge the iPod that is the whole point of the iPod interface.

-2011 X5s in NA never got LED angel eyes, so neither did X5M.
-Tails are the same as the 2011 X5. -Side m-markers always worked, wasn't recalled for that. -Carbn Black is a different color than Black Sapphire...it has deep blue tints in direct light. -Camera package (?) is the same as 2010 at this point...in October 2011, side view cameras will be produced and the cost of the drive assistance packge will increase slightly. -With the correct cable and supported device, you will be able to charge your ipod/iphone. Sometimes they give you the wrong (non-updated) cable at your dealership. |

Cameras
FYI, I picked up my 2011 X5 M last week at the Performance Center, and it DOES have side cameras in addition to the rear/top views. My dealer told me these wouldn't be produced until October, but the cameras seem to be in the side mirrors. Is there something else that will come in October?

2011 BMW X5M Details
- Will take additional pics of the car over the weekend. See the current set of pics for now.
- The satellite download is for MAPS as well as Traffic per the dealer. The NAV now requires a code to be entered for working, which I have not enabled yet. -kappaerachi |

The leather dashboard is very nice, although something you can live without. This is a No Cost (NC) option and you do not have to pay for this. This option ends up covering the dashboard as well as the door sides etc all in leather.

This may be a no cost option where you are from, but here in europe, it is a 2000 USD option.

Well, if your paying for full leather (like I did) it is not a "no cost" option. You are paying for it as part of the package, hence the full leather bit.
As far as the NAV goes, I believe your guy is misguided. I have not seen ANYTHING to suggest that BMW has switched the new iDrive to OTA download of maps and map data. RTTI is satellite dependent (from Clear Channel, I believe). But, I would encourage you to double check that info. I am almost certain it is wrong. As far as the cable situation, you have the wrong cable. There have been many posts here and on other forums (www.bimmerfest.com/forums, www.m5board.com, and www.xoutpost.com) that have addressed this. Also, I believe, however, fully admit that I may be mistaken, that you can import music from a USB port in the glove box. I think I remember seeing an USB jack there. Cheers, and congrats on the new car.
