Good luck with the Build.

Pulled the trigger.... 8 on order @ $365 from bmwpartsnow.com

Very strange, when they arrived, were barely any packing material.... just air bags that were flat..... And the outer plastic container part number ended in in 079 but the injectors were actually printed with the old 261 part number.

On the flip side, the lot number showed they were made in January of this year and from Italy.... If it wasn't from a BMW dealer , I'd really be concerned.

I have the new oil pump but forgot to order the 3 o rings for the oil tubes (large and skinny). Got those flying in from FCP auto.

Prob won't continue again til weekend after next. More images to follow
Got the rods notched for oil to sling up to the wrist pin and piston...... rods in.... pistons in..... Some accomplishment so far.......

I wonder when BMW is going to lower prices on the injectors as this is just getting ridiculous. I really pray someone starts rebuilding these and charging a fraction of the price LOL.

theres a local guy for me in South NJ, website is:
https://injector-rehab.com/product/b...-flow-testing/

i sent my stock injectors there. had all the service done. provides a nice test report/etc. and i wound up selling them on ebay. i think i still have 3 left out of the 8.

i figured i spent insane money on the rebuild, and i really wanted new injectors.

I have not tuned it yet.

I simply put higher compression pistons. Stock for my 2011 x5m engine is 9.3:1

I basically have my pistons installed now which are 10:1 ratio

But you'd only need these if you have the single squirter, have curved rods, and want to upgrade to straight rods

I grinded in some notches at 12 oclock on the rods. Both sides

Yeh they feel heavier.

Yep, the crank was polished and rebalanced at the machine shop factoring in the rods n pistons

Yep we're limited but not too terrible

I am concerned with when it comes down to finding a good tuner.......

The notches are better in the sense that:
-they will always be flinging oil up
-doesnt take oil pressure from the system

Factory squirters only spray at certain oil pressure

Can you show me a picture of the notch in the rods . Thank you as far as a a tuner. Go to active Autowerks. They recently did a custom tune for someone in Canada. He has 10:1 compression ratio. Forged rods and pistons m5 manifold and turbos 28psi according to him.

I would think yes the arrow rods are heavier. Especially since they are rated for 2000hp.

I did give that crank to the same machine shop and they polished it and rebalanced

updates

Got some hours in on the motor this weekend.

Finally got the timing done...................

and the harmonic balancer (vibration damper). Wow was that a nightmare........... 100nm starting torque no prob..........then the 60 degrees x3.......... sheesh........needed to be superman for that........

So if you can visualize............a 3/4 inch drive, 40 inch breaker bar......with a 3/4 to 1/2 inch adapter (note...the weakest link)......then a snapon torque angle gauge.......then the 27mm socket........

1st 60 degree, no prob..........
2nd 60 degree.........halfway, the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter shatters dead center......... broke off in the snapon torque angle gauge........find another 3/4to1/2....... finish that 2nd 60 degree............

now the final 60 degree.............. just at the finishing point, the welds started breaking off at the same point at the center of the 3/4to1/2 inch adapter.........wow...........how much torque was that?Name: 1000033534.jpg

Got some more of the engine assembled. Worked on the heat shielding as previously mentioned from Sophisticated Redneck

Dont mind our messy wrap, first time heat wrapping a spider looking exhaust manifold.

Re: turbo blankets. I purchased 2 different ones. Today, I received two turbo jackets from Funk Motorsport in the UK. I like how they are form fitting over the exhaust part of the turbos.

I also have PTP turbo blanket , once piece, which I consider a "throw" blanket as it's one piece and throws/lays over the hot side of the turbos and back to the O2 sensors in the DP/cat

Of course I am going to try and use both. Will report my findings this weekend
