Oil burner!
Hey Guys,
I have a 2011 X6 50i. About 5000 miles ago my engine started using oil at a rate that's now 1qt every 500 miles. I only have 51000 miles on the car. My service rep at the BMW dealership said that replacing oil every 750 miles was "normal"! I don't know about the rest of you but as for myself, I'm outraged. Who is going to buy my car if it's burning oil at 1qt every 500 miles? Is there a class action suit underway. We can't just lay down for this. I know others are having this problem too. What do we do? ricosan |

your below the 750 miles mark. They need to fix what is wrong if your in warranty.
I keep toping off, mine burns in that neighborhood. I have stepped into 15w-50 though, I came to that conclusion since the M cars command 10w-60, I figured it is worth a shot.

I'll just add some experiences here and take this for what its worth...
I had a 2008 X5 4.8i that had bad valve stem seals and did the whole i'm batman level of smoking and liked her oil too. Since yours is a 2011 and probably has bad valve stem seals and possibly other leaks, and may not be under warranty here are some things that can help. Thicker oil - Made some difference but not a lot. Lucas oil leak stop. I tried this and it made a huge difference in oil consumption and smoke. It did not completely eliminate the issue but made it a lot better. ATP-AT-205. This stuff really worked, and completely stopped the smoking, leaks and oil consumption. I wouldn't hesitate to use the ATP-AT-205 product again even as preventative on the N63 engines. Its an elastomer softer and works well, it will not work if your seals are torn, ruptured. P.S. My S63 burns no detectible amounts of oil. |
