X5d Grille Transformation - COMPLETE

Got my performance kidney's and black upper center mesh grille today and should have the lower mesh grille tomorrow. I just couldn't wait for the lower piece before I started the transformation. Here's a few before and afters. Since I started, I also decided to plasti dip the fins on the outer grilles. Also, the pieces I'm removing will be FS soon.

I used this post to remove the bumper. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=535688

Nice where you get the grills seems like the cheapest I've found is $130.00 including shipping...

I paid $130 for the kidneys. The upper mesh grille cost $32 and the lower was $66. I bought all the parts from the BMW dealership and used my CCA discount. I'll post all the part numbers when I get back to the house.

I thought about plasti dipping mine too but I figured it'd be a kick in the short pants to peel it all off if I jacked it up. While I have the bumper off today I do plan on PD'ing the silver fins. That should be pretty simple.

I was at my dealership this weekend and had them put on Performance Kidney's. 51-71-2-150-246 & 247. I was told that they do not fit my 2012. Anyone have experience with this. Also the lower mesh, the part numbers you gave, are those for the black mesh?

My X is 2011 but I don't think the 2012 hood/grille design changed. To be sure, I'm checking with my parts guy. The mesh grille part numbers I listed should be for the black units but again, double check with your parts guy when you place an order.

Here's the diagram for the parts. #17 is the item you're looking for. http://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/201...agramCallOut=1

I pulled these off my vehicle and PlastiDipped em since they don't come in black.

I was actually referring to #16. I did some searching and noticed some X5 models have the exposed grille under the fog lights but only on the left side. Mine has both like the one in this pic. What's the story behind that? I prefer the exposed one, on both sides. Is there a place that sells it?

I want to do this to my truck. I already did the kidneys and the mid grille. I want to do the lower also, but don't want to remove the bumper. Has anyone been successful at painting the lower grille? Any objections to painting?
