upgrading/changing the shifter on X5M

Anyone knows how and if it possible to change the shifter on X5M with something more like the M5 shifter.

Thank you.

I don't think you would be able to switch the shifters. The M5 uses a MDCT transmission which is basically a manual automatic transmission. There is no Park until you shut off the car unlike ours which has the button to put the transmission in park.

It doesn't have to be the same thing just looking for an upgrade something shorter then our shifter.

Thank you.

Maybe the ball style bade at the bottom of the shifters is the same and can be swapped out if disassembled.

I love the F10 one, can you give us some more details on what needs to be done to install it. One thing i notice, no EDC button so that puts it out of contention. DAMN IT, So close.

I don't mean to change the subject but where can I get more info on upgrading the idrive wheel? That looks very sleek.

Hey - I don't imagine the car needs to be re-programmed to accept the new shifter does it?
Specifically my current one is failing (sport/manual mode locked out at times) so would just be replacing like for like, same part number (p/n 61-31-9-228-610 ).

*** E D I T ***
Nevermind, I posted this question in another thread about replacement.
But if you have more info pls go there and let me know!

Here's my DIY, FWIW…

To answer your question, more has to be done.

I know my DIY is kinda long, but if you skip down to the PURCHASE GEAR SELECTOR section you can find out if what you bought will work in the E70/71…
