Cheap 2008 VW Golf R32 on Craigslist

I know nothing about these, does this seem like a decent price. Seems cheap enough to have fun with and resell in a year, but i'm curious how much less its worth to the dealer.

Yes, it is the least appreciated of the Rs. That said...

In an of itself it is a nice car. My father had one, and it was a blast to drive. It's got a real AWD system and not some FWD biased bullshit, it's pretty worry free, and for some cheap fun and decent utility with the hatch and the foldable rear seats, it's tough to beat.

So yes, were this new at $35K (think that's what it was with Nav if memory serves) I'd look at other options. Used for $6K assuming it passes a PPI? They hold their value really well, can't get hurt too bad for that money. So I think for a bad weather / winter beater / have a little fun and not worry about messing it up - perfect option.

Don't disagree with that, well, except for the awd part. The Mk4 and Mk5 used versions of Haldex that were 100% fwd until slip was detected. Once slip occurred they could send 50% rearward. The Mk6 gained about 10% permanent rwd bias and could send 90% to the back. The Mk7 gained additional fixed power to the rear but details are hazy at best.

I've driven plenty of Mk4's and they're fun, but I'd still classify them as primarily fwd. I've never driven a Mk5 as I don't know how to drive two pedal cars. But the Mk6 was a noticeable improvement, even if the nannies were a bit overbearing.

But that's a different conversation than if this is worth $6k. It's probably a good deal at that price.

R32 is the last era of bigger engine more fun for VW.. its a fun car and it has a really nice engine note.. but the one in the ad has GTI wheels on it instead of R32 ones.. thats a bit spooky..

See, I'm in the opposing camp. Aside from the Mk7, I think the Mk5 is the best R(32). The DSG programming is aggressive, the sound is amazing, the steering and handling are better than the Mk4, and it's the last performance-oriented VR6 VW in the US.

I'd love to have one, but I'd pony up for a really nice, low mile example.

Yea there was nothing on the planet that sounded like a srt4 in 2004. They were neat little cars and when they ran they were fun to drive.
