X5M brake squel in reverse

Hello guys

I have a 2008 X5 4.8i. One year ago i bought fromt brakes from an X5M. The problems appeared instantly. When i brake in reverse the brakes are making an awful noise. It's embarrasing.
After 5 months i went to BMW and ordered a set of new discs and new pads. For 2 days the noise was gone, but after that came back.
I can't stand it anymore. Does any of you encountered this problem? And why do they squel only when i reverse?

Thanks

i have an 08 4.8i and get pebbles stuck between the rotor and the pad a lot more often than i like. Some times, it came out after a few mins of driving, a couple of times, it was too big to just fall out so i had to remove the wheel and pull it out with pliers. I am willing to bank that you probably have a pebble or something stuck in there but it's shaped itself so it wedges only when you go in reverse but not forward. The last pebble i had did this but in forward motion. THAT was embarassing! screeching around town just to get home so i can dislodge it. You can heard me from 3/4 of a block away.

Had the same problem on our 08 X5 3.0 and had both brakes and rotor change. The problem was caused by the rotor in my situation.

Hope this helps.

It's a known issue with the X5M. I mentioned it to my Service rep on it's first service and he looked it up. Apparently they do a free pad change to a
new compound.

That fixed the problem and I've done about 5k Kms since and no more squeal in reverse.

This is in Australia, but I assume it would be the same everywhere.

Thank you very much guys. I've changed again the pads at BMW dealer and it sounds the same. I've ordered Carbotech pads, i use them on all of my other cars and very happy with them.

Thank you again

Carbotech are good pads, also will get rid of all that dust as well.

I tried to get Carbotech pads for my M50d as I had them on my last X5 but they don't make the front pads so I had to get the ceramic pads from EBC in Europe.

It's simple. They can make custom pads. Contact them, send them one of your pads, and after that they will make you pads for your car with every compound you want.

They tried, the pads for the fronts on the M50d are massive, they said they built 2 sets, both came out of the oven faulty?
