could be a blown fuse. The below is for X5, but assume it would be the same for X6.

Is there a specific fuse or just any fuse for a BMW?

I did.. its red and shows a number 10 but I searched online for some oem fuses and they don't show the number 10 hence I wanted to make sure I know what I am asking for.

I'll go and ask for a 10 or 15 as I watched the video on the post.. thanks again for your help!

The doors don't just open mechanically?!?! Seems like just another something to go wrong if they are electric.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I had installed an LED bulb in my gf's glove compartment. Bulb lit up, then died. Swapped back the OEM, still nothing. Dicked around with it for a while, then got fed up and figured I'd play with it later. Shut the glove box and the journey began. Couldn't unlock the damn thing for the life of me...

I'm taking her X6 down to Florida to our winter home. We did the official importation a few days ago and I am to drive it down from Montreal on Thursday. Needless to say, the prospect of telling my significant other that I dicked with the truck and it now needs to go to the dealership ASAP before I drive the truck down stateside.......let's just say that I peed a little in my tighty-whiteys at the prospect

Back to the reason I posted. Thank you soooo much to the members who posted about how the glove compartment mechanism operates. I located/replaced the 10 amp fuse and now the glove box opens & the light........lights. I owe you guys my life LOL

PS: I didn't know that the Marquis of Sade helped design BMW's. I can't believe the complicated workings that were designed just to open a damn glove box.

The glovebox is a classic German Escher design. Take something that should be stupidly simple and convert it into a complicated contraption. What kills me is that they'll "decontent" the trim lines to save nickels and yet keep something that cost $$ and adds no value. I think on the new models they've switched to a standard mechanical opening design?

Couldn't find the burned fuse for glove box

Hello,

Thank you for the post.

I ran into the same problem. I replaced all the bulbs to the white LEDs on my 2013 X6 (3.5L) and until the last LED in the glove box, where my screw driver touched the contact and burned the bulb, but also the glove box won't open (just make the clicking noise when hit the open button).

I followed the forum and inspected all the fuses, but I didn't find any burned fuses.

I brought my car to the dealer they said it would require them to open the entire unit and inspect the motor. Since my car is no longer under warrantee, I thought I can this forum for last help. I hope someone can kindly point out which fuse (and location number, front or back box) from the diagram below.

Thank you in advance !!!

Which fuse panel did you check?

The panel in question is under the dash, hidden by a cover (I think) on the far right passenger side. You have to remove a screw or bolt, then pivot the panel down to see the fuses.

I did this once, very aggravating. Yes, the fuse is in the passenger footwell fuse panel, not in the rear fuse panel.

If you checked the fuses, and they all are fine then its another thing. I forgot what its called. But to get to it you have to take out the radio and completely remove the glove box. I have the receipt in my car. Once I look at it I will tell you what its called and how much I paid for everything including the work.

I bought simple LED interior lights and when I installed the glove box Light I used a flat head to pop the bulb out... DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! SMH what a dumb move by me, I figured only a fuse would go. Instead of paying 100 bucks for some simple LED interior lights I end up paying over 500 after everything was fixed.... Just happened on 2/15.... I will update tomorrow.

It was the fuse. I was installing LED lights and I touched the inside and outside of the bulb holder at the same time with the bulb, fuse blew. If I ever do an LED install again I will disconnect the battery first.
