Im sorry but i love the new x5. Its going to be a tuff debate between a 335 coupe and X5 4.8 in 2 years.

I saw two new X5's at the dealership the weekend they came out. I dont really like the styling. Third row seat can hold nothing more than a cabbage patch doll...
But I also said I didnt like the styling of the E90 at first, and the E92 at first... I like them both now... |

I drove the E70 today, and agree with the mixed reviews.
A few brief random highlights/lowlights: o Current X5 owners will find the driving position and handling very familiar. o Driveline, suspension are fine, typical BMW quality. o Suprise! The runflats are not even noticeable, very smooth and quiet, not at all like the E90 thump/crash/boom. Oddly, if you skip the 3rd row seat, you get a space saver spare? o Get ready for a new Steptrinic shifter joystick thingy. I see BMW spreading this throughout the product line. It will be in the '08 5er this spring. o The 3rd row seat capacity is small. Just for small children only, and ingress/egress is not good either. o Technology package has lots of cool toys, if your into that sort of thing o Worst issue with the new E70 is the price. Way too high IMHO. Current lease rates and residuals are not favorable. Expect 36 month leases to run $900-1100 per month. At these prices, the X3 starts to become a more attractive option. o Dealer allocations are available, you can get late Jan delivery on a customer built car (in the US) Overall, not enough to make me want to trade my LR3. |

I'm pretty sure they're planning that next year. If it's officially confirmed then I might lease one. There's just one problem I have with the new X5's. The cheap bullshit plastic molding around the lower part of the car. WTF would they do that for. If you don't get a jet black or blk sapphire this bullshit really stands out and looks horrible... At least make these models all monochrome paint.. I don't understand, they smarted up with the new X3 and make it monochrome paint if you opted for the sport package. but why not the X5. pics are attached of the X5 versus the X3 in terms of the monochrome paint...

This is probably beacause of the fact that this is supposidly an off-roader, it may never go off road but it still needs to be able to perform in that area, so the plastic is there to stop something breaking or more likely, the ability to keep it clean and free of scratches down there. |
