Wheel upgrade - 334 to 214s

My wife just got a new car and I'm taking her X5. It's a 2013 3.5i premium package. She got it with 19" style 334 wheels and I'm thinking about going to staggered 20" 214s. Has anyone done this on this car? How exactly did you go about it from getting the wheels and tires to installing them? Did you need additional parts? Tell me everything. Thx.

Quite a few people have upgraded to OEM 20's from a non Sport/M Sport model like yours. You're gonna want to get the fender flares if you do it - the wider wheels will look funny w/o the flares.

Items 7 & 8 (the ones inside the red lines, for vehicles with wheel style 214, 336, etc.) -

www.getbmwparts.com has them for $124.08 each. I believe you can get some aftermarket ones on eBay, though I would never go that route. Do a search on this forum for the OEM wheel arches - you should find some additional info.

I have aftermarket 214s for my winter setup, and they work great.

I did this same exact switch. I have a 11' 35d that came with sport package 19's. Upgraded to the 214's. I don't have the fender flares and despite a lot of people thinking it wouldn't look good, it does. The staggered appearance is a lot more pronounced making the truck look much more aggressive.

Also, i'm keeping my 19's for my winter setup and flares with 19's would look stupid.

I need a set of 19"s I can't seem to find any all season runflats for the 214's.

My '11 35D had the 19" 335 sport rims and I just got the X5M 20" wheels. I needed a 15mm spacer on the rears because the wheel opening size is smaller than the hub. Only the M wheels seem to have this issue, though. With that, I NEEDED fender flares, it looked terrible as-is.

I bought the ebay flare kit for around $200 or so and honestly it's meh. The fronts fit perfect and are great. The rears needed a lot of muscle to get on and they don't fit perfectly. That said, the amount they're askew is probably not noticeable to anybody except myself or anybody who really looks closely

Show us some pictures of where and how they don't fit perfectly ...

I take it that the eBay kit you bought are not BMW OE, but some after market quality brand? I've always wondered how they fit ... Same with the aftermarket running boards ...

I'll see what I can do. What I can tell you is that the overall curve doesn't match perfectly. So when I snapped in the fronts, the back sides didn't line up right, they were too far forward, still. So I had to bend them towards the back (making the curve larger) to get them in, which caused the very tops to bow out a little bit. I will try to remember to get pics tonight. But yes, not BMW OE. I just figured for half the price, it was worth a shot. I had already paid so much for the wheels, my budget was kind of shot and I don't want my wife to kill me

OK, here are some pics of where it's not fitting perfectly, again because the curvature wasn't spot on so there's some deflection to get it to fit.
