Don't have any pics, but for reference, it was this exact car:

I had tan leather interior instead of black, otherwise exactly this interior (Yes, 5 speed):

No digital cameras back then... so i have very few pictures and none of them scanned.

This is kind of what it looked like though. Except it was black, with a bit more drop, custom exhaust, custom adjustable sway bars, and custom clear corners. The wheels were 17" 3pc Gold BBS like these. When i sold it, it had 178k miles on it. Good car, great on the track.

Edit:
Just came across this which looks very similar to mine.

1985 Mercury Topaz....5 speed.....diesel.

I hated that car when I was in high school. Looking back on it now not many cars in the late '80s where getting 40 MPG.

I wonder how many of us still wish we had our first cars. Not necessarily as a DD but more of a weekend warrior.

I still have the E30 M3, and I don't ever plan on selling it . It's the perfect weekend car.

You should have seen it spew black smoke on startup. No clean diesels in the '80s. On the plus side I just filled it up out of my Dads' Ag diesel tank he kept for his tractors. I don't think I paid for fuel until I was 21.

I have a Jetta TDi as my daily - it is scary how similar my first car looks to the TDi from certain angles...same color too.

'82 Corolla Tercel. Bought used, about $2000, this was ~ 1988 or so.

Worked great til I let a coworker borrow it and he rolled it.

I put what I thought was a great stereo in it, under-dash EQ /amp and speakers all around, had to make a new rear shelf out of plywood wrapped in fabric to hold them back there.

(Pic from online, but it was just like this down to the 4 doors and the color)
