shocks ?
hey guys, I just ordered a set of H&R lowering springs for my X5. but after doing some research I see they will be very stiff with the stock shocks. Are there any aftermarket shocks that would soften the ride with them?

Someone here already has done this, I don't recall his name here. I PM'd him about it, and he mentioned it was a subtle difference.
That said, you also can look at Bilstein B8 shocks, which are made for lowered vehicles. I'd take those over Koni FSD's anyday. FSD's were made for stock height vehicles.

The Koni sport yellows are meant for lowering or in combination of high performance parts. Their adjustability can be matched to the spring rate. Where as the FSD cannot and is meant for the factory spring.
The bilsteins b8's are non adjustable but are valved stiffer and have a shorter body because it's made for lowering springs. B6's can be used on stock springs While you can use an FSD, with a lowering spring, the recommended application should be a yellow if it existed for the e70 which it does not. At the end of the day there are not a lot of options for the e70, and you saw FSD/spring combos, which were the only thing available in the US for years, and only very recently was the b8 available iirc outside of europe. |

I only finde some that are for the ones that don't have the self leveling in the rear .

Correct. there isn't a performance rear replacement for self-leveling systems AFAIK? So you can change the fronts, and rely on the factory shocks/airbags in the rear.

Is there a way to delete the air spring and go with regular springs all around

You could very easily convert to a regular spring in the rear however you would experience stability error codes until you found a way to bypass the system to not throw a code.
A Rear air spring has a lot of benefits over a traditional spring specifically with being able to adjust ride height. This was the one option I really wish I had but finding a heavily optioned 35d with AD is tough. Last edited by socale39; 04-06-2017 at 10:17 PM.. |
