Brake wear sensor ??

Doing front brake pads and was wondering if you have to change the sensor also.

I searched and nothing came up.

Yes. It is a wear item and works by getting smaller and smaller as the pads are consumed.

If it's not worn, reuse otherwise NoQuarter is right.

What do you mean, if it's not worn? It's supposed to be replaced in conjunction with the pads. Without it, the sensor and car will keep chiming about your front brakes need servicing, but it really doesn't.

Now rotors... Rotors don't have to be replaced with the pads at the same time. That, you can go by the minimum thickness measurements. I'm often going two pad changes before rotors need to be changed on my street cars. Maybe 3 pad changes on the rear rotors, before they are replaced as well.

Right. If the pads are due for replacement then the sensor is certainly worn.

OP didn't state why he was changing his pads. Like me, maybe he got fed up with the dust and is trying a new pad. In that case the sensor could very well be reuseable.

New pad with aprox 15-20k life and an existing sensor with only 10k life does not make sense?

Last sensor I bought was $25. Might as well do it right the first time...

If you know how the sensor works, then you know that if the rotor hasn't made contact with the sensor, the sensor is still good no matter how you look at it, regardless of mileage or pad life or whatever.

Sure it's a cheap part to replace but one that doesn't need to be replaced in all cases.

Yean I just doing the pads, rotors only have 66k and are good. Doing sensors also, cheap and easy to replace.

What pads are you looking at purchasing? If you are looking for OEM bite with less dust, Textar ePad is a great option. If you are ok with less bite there are plenty of other options out there that will make wheels cleaning much easier.
