PAX5,

Are you seriously going to sit there and bash my name on the forums? You got paid, and that was the end of this story. Please stop slandering my name, and remove this post. I will contact administrators.

THE MESSAGE I SENT TO PAX5. HOW IS THIS A THREAT??

Edit: This is the last I am going to reply to such a ridiculous claim. I paid the guy 300 dollars, and he got his product. End of Story. I am simply not going to waste my time arguing over something that was fixed in the end.

The ONLY reason why I got my money back is because I had to invoke:
1. PayPal Buyer/Seller protection policy
2. Visa Purchase Security protection.

That's how I got my money back ... not from this thief!

I will go ahead and reply so my name isn't bashed more.

If I was a thief why would I send you the product? If you don't remember Pax5, I even offered to send you the product first without doing the 300 dollar security blanket for both of us...

With a name like "pull my chamb", you're only 5 letters short of "pull my chain" ...

I think that says it all.

For a 24 year old you sure have have a lot of b%@*$.

I think I'll call that BMW dealer in Charleston, SC and warn them that you might pull another "charge back" with your credit card, then cancel the card after you make a payment ...

Pax5, if that really makes you happy then do it. I can't control what you are going to do.

Can we please lay this matter to rest.

I know you're only 24, but let this be a lesson for you: don't buy a vehicle only based on the purchase price of said vehicle. Take into account maintenance, that things will break on it, insurance, etc. etc. If you cannot afford these things, you cannot afford the vehicle.

You make a good point. It's just a bad situation.

BMW Dealership has agreed to fix my car under good faith warranty, and put me in a loaner car. Driveshaft, oil pan, and transmission are all being replaced, and they put me in a loaner car! They are giving me 2 years, unlimited mileage on the parts.

Very excited, A+ work BMW

I would recommend you take the X5 once fixed and sell it. You got very lucky that this was a very expensive warranty work which was covered by Goodwill. Now you are off of warranty and you may not get a Goodwill repair, this car can become very expensive. Always look at the sticker price of a new car before because that will tell you what to expect on a repair bill.

Just curious, how did the conversation go? Did you bring any documents to them?

I originally took the car to a private shop here, then came on the forums and read up on everything. I then went and sat down with the service guy, and it was not much help. I found out who the service manager was, and called him and explained the situation then he went and pulled records where they had inspected the driveshaft for issues a few months back, he then talked to the regional manager and he agreed to help me because their is an open campaign.

It took many days to get to this point, but they went above and beyond to make me happy. I am very satisfied.

TIME OUT. The dealership previously inspected your driveshaft due to the recall, determined is was OK and didn't need replacing, then it LATER exploded on you, and they replaced it (and ancillary damage) under the recall???

I bet it also deals with what failed. If the dealer inspected it and said it was good and then the part in the same area where the dealer is to check failed, how could they then claim it shouldn't be covered? If anything, it just reaffirms that there was an issue.

The U joint which failed is part of the drive shaft. I believe that's what was checked for excess play, per the recall: "A worn universal joint may lead to undesirable vibrations and to an increased noise level in the vehicle interior. In individual cases, the universal joint on the front drive shaft may break." It freaks me out that so many of us have had the dealers inspect our drive shafts under the recall, yet, based on the OP's experience, there's potential for our driveshafts to fail anyway...

That either says there is an larger issue or something at that dealer. How many had it inspected and then had an issue? So we have one reported case.

The N63 campaign already will cover cars out of warranty as part of that recall campaign. Cars 5yrs old and 200k are still covered!

I'm hoping this will be the same. Hopefully an official statement will confirm that someday.

But this involves where the vehicle was already looked at and deemed not to have an issue. Do you think you could get the N63 campaign done twice?

Of course. The campaign renews the warranty another 12k miles or so for those very parts replaced and the engine with it.d

As for the inspection of the driveshaft bolts, I have zero faith in that service. fatigue is not often seen in metal, let alone a drit/grime covered part. It'll fail it when it fails. No inspection will find it reliably 100% of the time. It may be tight one day, and get play within a week after an "inspection."
