Dealer put wrong oil

So as previously stated in other threads. 10w -60 is not oil for X6/X6M. I have a 2011 X6M i purchased in 2014 and been running perfect until now. I got an oil change in april 2016 and the dealership suggested the 10w-60 oil because it was an M. I had to leave out of country for 7 months so i didnt think to confirm. Upon my return and 1000 miles later after i return my engine started havi g issues aux pump was replaced and no one knew issue. The reduce power went away at 12 Celsius (weird) had the reduce power come up again took to nearest dealer and they said engine has metal shavings possibly wrong oil used. Confirmed with M cliniv 5w-30 and they put wrong oil. This car warranty expired 2016. Anyone have suggestions how to go about this with the dealer?

They should replace the engine if they damaged it with the wrong oil.

Yea pretty open shut case if they have a history of you being their and the oil they used as the tech usually makes notes and leaves a list of shop materials used. Their was an invoice made and charged out for whatever oil they gave you so you should have a record of that.

Once you show them the bad decisions that where made and they where the ones that made them then your all set to have them held responsible.

Also you may want to call BMW USA and file a report with them. I've had an issue with a dealer once that put an unrecommended additive in my oil to get rid of a ticking noise on my z4 as the N52 engine in 2006 had a design flaw and no check valve which caused a ticking,
Well their additive cause a slew of problems with the vanos system and BMW USA got the dealer to replace my head on my Z4 free of any cost.

So you never know.

I had a similar problem, but mine was with the transmission, they put the wrong oil or didn't do it right. They will argue with you as they did with me that they are not responsible, but i fought them and ended up getting a new transmission for free. Takes time but be persistent and you should be ok. Good Luck

I used this oil in my 2011 X6M for past 4 years. I do not trust anyone with any work to my car, even a simple task of oil and filter change, do it all myself. This is the Oil I always use: M TwinPower Turbo 10W-60 Engine Oil - 1 Liter: $12.74 at ECS Tuning in Ohio, https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/83212365944/ . Never had any oil-related issues with my car. Have a feeling that in your case it was just a coincidence.
