It's probably taken out of Germany by now! My little Dodge Caliber just won't cut it.

It was stolen at Bad Homburg, about 15 from Frankfurt.

My wife's friend had an X5M too, German spec. They parked their truck to get coffee in Berlin and 10 minutes later it was gone! I was telling my wife the same thing, these bad boys are hard to steal. Plus I was talking to one of the salesman last night about the GPS. Since it's American spec, the tracking device for it is aimed at North America or vice versa. I was thinking since it's a GPS, it should be global. I just didn't want to go in detail as I was getting irritated each day every time I saw an X5.

Sorry to hear that man. When I picked up my 335i in Munich, they loaded Eropean maps for me into my US car. It worked fine. When it was shipped here, local dealer loaded US maps no problem. In fact I used BMW Assist in Munich when a giltch shutdown my car 2 miles from pick up, and it wouldn't start again. Last month I drove from Virginia to Montreal Canada, and the GPS worked seamlessly. I think yours should work. You should actually have remote control of your vehicle from your BMW assist account if you activated it. I can lock and unlock my car remotely via BMW assist Europe account I created, but use it with my car here. The cars over here dont have that feature, but a friend clued me in to go to create a European account and register the vin, it works, its already on the car, just need to activate free too. You have 2012, must have even more features. You can use an iPhone and see where your car is live as I can too. Hope that helps if you had registered and activated an account. But BMW should be able to this for you with just a call, maybe they want police report?

That sucks! So much for BMW Assist. I heard that the tracking GPS device is easily disabled by placing a piece of aluminum foil over the antennae.

I know It's too late but you can always track your own vehicle by adding aftermarket devices. I am not sure how well they work in Europe but you can spend a few hundred $ if you love your vehicle and add one of your own, plus monthly service charge if you want to be able to spot it using any browser.
