Successfully retrofitted LCI headlights (with LED coronas) in to my E70 X5

Successfully retrofitted LCI headlights (with LED coronas) in to my 2011 X5.
My 2011 was a early built(09/2010) and it came without LED coronas, so I found the headlights on eBay and most of the modules/ballast.
The dynamic Xenon controller is the only one that will swap over to the new headlights, also the HID bulbs will fit the new headlight.

Some of the background work:
The FRM 2 puts out ~6 volts of pulse power(not clean voltage) this was not enough to turn the LED coronas, no even enough to drive a relay.
So I replaced the FRM 2 with the newest Footwell module FRM 3
61359287252.

Member TRIPL3_O CODING wrote my vin on the new FRM (coding) but even after that the new FRM was putting out between 12 and 13 volts but it was still Pulse power which did not turn on the coronas. At this point I could of use a relay if I want it to convert the pulse power to normal clean power but I didn't wanted to mess with a relay so we kept playing with coding and what really did the trick was we Changed the build date in the Vehicle Order to 04/2012 after that the FRM sends between 12 and 13 volts of clean + power.

The wiring is all the same except for one wire which is used to Dimm the coronas, I did not hook that up because I want the coronas to stay bright all the time.

If you want them to Dimm you can hook pin #7(empty at the moment) to pin #3 (HID low bean power) and your LEDs will Dimm when the headlights come on but that's your choice.
if you want to do this you need to order 2 pins to add to your current plug part # 61136901728

Here are the individual parts of the headlights:

Left headlight 63127298451
Right headlight. 63127298452

LED modules 63117263051 need 2 of those there is 2 in each box so that's your 4 LEDs.

Day time running light control module 63117263052 need 2 of them.

HID ballast. 63117356250 need 2.

The cornering light module, the HID bulb , and the turn signal bulb will swap over from your current headlights.

I'm really happy with the results.
Is really hard the take a picture that really shows how they look.

it is possible to find the headlights cheap on ebay with broken tabs, then buy the OEM tab replacement kit the only tab that can't be replaced is the top outer (big one) order thank that, I paid $150 for one headlight and $400 for the other, empty that is

You have to replace your FRM module with the latest part number 61359287252
And then change your VO( vehicle order) to a date after 4/2011 via coding, also to after you install the new FRM your vin number needs to be written in to the new FRM so it can work properly with your truck.

All my coding was done by member

Guys i really need your help ASAP.

I have already ordered new headlights for my 2007 e70, but reading this post makes me wonder, if i can put the new ones from the 2013' model. The guy at the bmw shop said that i would have to change or put two led modules, two dlr modules, frm3 and coding of course, maybe even some wire changing and so on. The cost of all this he said would be app. 1500 eu not including labour. And not including headlights of course.

So reading this post makes me wonder, is it enough to change only frm3 module, or do you have to change all the things i counted?? I can't concuour from reading i'm sorry.

Thank you for the quickest response, so i can change the order to the new model of headlights, because 1500 is just to much for me, paying for all those things....but changing only frm3 would cost me only app. 300 eu...that's not so much.

Thank you

Check out the first post.

The only thing you can re-use from your 07 headlights is the dynamic xenon module and the HID bulb.

So you need the LED modules ( they come 2 in the box) you need 2 (that will make 4 total.
You also need 2 new ballast and a new FRM module. + coding.

Thought so.

A few answers got me confused, on other forums too, when Googling.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Have a nice day
