2012 models are less likely to have issues than 2011 strictly from a mileage stand point. Obviously the 2012 models are more likely to have fewer miles. Of course there is no real way of knowing of BMW made changes to the engine without doing some extensive research. One thing to note is that up to 2011 the N63B4400 was used then in 2012 the N63B4401 was introduced. The customer care recall was announced in late last year and applied to all N63 models up to 2012. so this would suggest there have been some updates however note exactly sure what they are.

BMW replaced them thinking they were causing my oil consumption. Well, they suspected they were the problem, so inspected them and noted chipped impeller blades.
So I have new turbos. But the oil consumption didn't change a lick. |
