If I get an SUV, I want it to have true off-road capability, I don't understand these urban lifted hatch/wagons.

Nice buy. I love my Macan. Not sure what I will replace it with. Perhaps the refresh or a panamera. But for now it is in for the long haul.

I was actually planning on buying either an M3 or Giulia QV and drove both extensively. I had never intended on buying a car for actual off-roading. With baby no. 1 on the way however, having a hatch and AWD appealed to me. I drove both the S and GTS and was sold after driving the GTS. With PASM + AS the car is fit to drive both ends of the spectrum. Being able to raise and lower the car, stiffen and soften the suspension, adjust the exhaust with PSE, and have RWD-biased AWD (Chicago Winters) with PDK was a perfect combo. I know current Macan GTS owners who came from M3/4's who said the driving dynamics are comparable. This was a no-brainer for me.

As-per Porsche: The Macan is Porsche's best handling vehicle with 4 doors. Nuff said.

Personally I have switched to Immageshack. Photobucket, even if you pay, is so screwed up that it is functionally unusable.

I've been crushing on a Macan GTS but my build is well over $80k and I just don't want that much car right now. Instead I've been searching the pre-owned market for a Turbo or GTS. My challenge is Active Cruise Control, Sport Chrono, and Porsche Torque Vectoring (lsd) are all mandatory and it's very difficult to find one with both ACC and performance options.

Panamera's have 4 doors and I'm pretty sure they've set some ring records. Haven't seen the macan do the same. As I said, I don't get why people love urban SUVs.

Essentially an upgraded Audi SQ5. My BIL has a Macan Turbo, 2016. Nice vehicle, fast and handles well, but he is almost afraid to drive it and only has 2000 miles on it in nearly three years. Sad really.

What's he afraid of? It's just another SUV.

I guess he is afraid of door dings and damage.

Then at least ditch it for a sports car to do that with. Park away from everyone. Solved. Most of us here worry about dings, but we still drive our cars.

Any reason why you didn't spring for the $500 LED headlights?

Point taken regarding the segment overall. I am so not a crossover/SUV/truck guy at all. Since I'm a loyal sedan owner seriously shopping for a Macan I feel I can contribute to the discussion.

For me this is about shopping for a Porsche. The main challenge is I am an avid golfer and need to fit at least one golf bag (preferably cart size) and a pushcart.

This can definitely be done in a 911, but a used late model, at least with the options I demand, is just beyond my budget right now.

The current Cayman can fit the push cart, but cannot accommodate even a small carry bag... Sadly this car just is not an option.

This leaves me the Macan. I can fit two full size bags and two pushcarts in a Macan! I see the GTS or Turbo as having enough fun and performance, while delivering more utility, and a WAY nicer interior than say a M3 for close to the same money. Plus there is one other thing... I can't get Active Cruise Control in the current M3 like I can in the Macan (plus lane keeping). Call me addicted to ACC if you want, but that single feature really impacts my interest in the M3, and M2 for that matter.

This is actually a 2017 CPO with 5800 miles. It was an employee lease early turn in (5 months old) so I got an amazing deal, basically brand new car and extra 2 year warranty due to CPO. It was essentially everything I wanted. The only two options I wanted that this didn't have? LED and PTV

I can live with that considering what I paid

This will be a really great option. To me the turbo is like a GT - very fast, comfortable and smooth. The GTS is the sportiest of the entire lineup. The GTS is what the engineers originally designed and everything else is a variation even though it came later. There is more to the GTS than just revised mapping and PASM+AS. You can't get an S and option it to be a GTS. It's like getting a 335 and modding to be an M3. You can get close but it won't be the real thing. The turbo spec'd out can get north of $100k. I think the GTS is perfect, plus the GTS is only released in limited quantities per year. Good luck! Also I'm not an SUV guy at all, and the GTS feels nothing like an SUV. It drives better than my 335 with KW coils

I don't know if a Macan and a Q5 are directly related, but if they are... they are truly great medium size SUVs. The combo of tech, engine and tranny options are awesome for a DD.

Same platform, lots of technical and mechanical differences depending on model subsets.
