2008 X5 4.8 - Engine Malfunction
My X5 is just waiting for a tow right now, its a 2008 X5 4.8i.
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this problem: 1) Yesterday when stopping at a stop sign, I heard a loud clunk from the front. It still drove fine. 2) Started the car later, and there was an engine malfunction light on, and the engine was revving erratically, and almost lurching. 3) Let the car sit overnight, went to drive it again this morning, and same thing, revving erratically, stalls sometimes, cant rev higher than 1600rpm (limp mode). 4) I am also now getting a myriad of other lights and errors, DSC, 4x4, cruise control, etc. 5) It also seems that the x5 is trying to move forwards even with my brake on. When I take my foot off the brake, and NOT touch my gas peddle, its as if I just floored it, it lurches forward. Then when I brake it seems to want to keep moving forward. Anyone experienced these similar problems? or what I can expect at the dealership tomorrow?

I have a 2009 x5 4.0xdrive with the same problems you're having.
I had to wait for 2 hours untill roadside assistance decided to come and tow my car. the Car is currently at the dealership right now and they're replacing the wiring harness ( firewall to engine harness) Service manager told me that they have a TSIB for the harness or whatever. I hope that's the only problem i'm having because the car is only 3 weeks olD!!!! good luck with your visit and make sure you update us on what's going on |

According to my Service Advisor, they are replacing the Engine Wiring Harness as well, they said it is about an 8-10hour labour job. They have had my x5 since Monday (friday today), and it might be ready today.
I will post an update when I get my x5 back. And I also think that clunk might not be related, might have been a rock or something, but who knows at this point.

2008 X5 4.4
Did similar: no acceleration (limp mode?), DSC and AWD Malfunction lights, Brake failure lights---dealer replaced wiring harness. 1 month later, same thing. Dealer replaced throttle motor assy. 2 weeks later, same thing. Now they've had it 2 weeks, won't duplicate the problem. Next call is to a lawyer. Anybody else w that problem?? |
