tire warranty
My dealer was offering a third-party one for about $1500 retail, plus gave me a $150 good guy coupon which could be applied against retail purchases.
After reading the fine print for the warranty, I declined. There were some obvious restrictions which, in the worst of circumstances (multiple flats resulting in multiple tire replacements), you would only break even. Anything less and you'd be money out of pocket. The warranty also offered free roadside assistance - you already have that for 4y/50k. |

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'.

Horrible deal. When I purchased my 335xi at the end of 2007, I purchased a wheel/tire warranty for $350 for 36K miles and 3 years (Fit my lease perfectly) and more than that and you will NEVER recoup the warranty. My warranty also covered any wheel/tire I had on the car at the time so it covered my OEM 18"s and my winter 17"s which was awesome. $1500 is highway robbery. Look elsewhere or just save the $ and "self insure".
My 2 cents X

FYI.. it's just a way of them(dealer) to price gouge you. granted your vehicle costs more and some components might be proportionally be as well, but it's an insurance coverage for certain parts and they can mark it up to make their sales incentive.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get the protection but try to negotiate a better deal with them. I got that even for my truck and I"m in Cali and I have my stock 18's on it. Plus I normally swap out my wheels to a larger set. I heard that as long as the wheels are OEM they will honor that wheel/tire coverage so I'm sourcing something from the factory.. Good luck with getting a better price on the coverage. It's worth the coverage but $1500 sounds a lot more than what I paid. It's possible that they are higher than what I got, geographically your area might have more potholes than my parts of Cali

Tire / wheel Insurance
Quote:
U r betting u will collect on material & labour. If u travel out of town stick w/ bmw policy which u can probably claim at any bmw dealer. If u intend ur X5M 2 b daily or frequent driver & there r lots of debris on the roads u travel or frequent construction sites in ur line of work, get it. It's just a convenience to just book ur app't & u know they r more knowlegeable about the car they r working on, ie. proper torgue on the bolts etc. I've had 2 claims in 2 yrs.so one more to break even. |

Tire/Rim coverage a waste...
You can have rims repaired to new for $50-$75 a wheel, I did. www.redlinerimrepair.com did the work and they come onsite. I was very happy with the results. If they missed a spot they addressed it for free.

My dealer is trying to sell me on my new X6 a wheels/tire coverage for $1600 for 5 years, but I am still debating if I should get it. There are some restrictions...for example if the tire is too warn out...
Are those run flat tires to easy to get punctured?... |

had this protection on my last bmw it was such a waste. They are so specific as to what "damage" really is.

it is worth it for $600-$1000 on the set of wheels & tires but you have to be sure of exactly what they will cover. they don't cover scratches.
I had a customer in last week who said his dealer would not cover the bend & 2 cracks since they were not leaking. Read the fine print |

I have the tire warranty, but I think it's longer than 2 years. From waht I can recall, I'll still have the tire warranty even when the 4 yr warranty on the car has expired.
In a year and a half, I've used it once (nail in tire). It was $7??. |

If you have RFT's, you've missed the essence of having the warranty. Supposedly, whenever an RFT loses air (for whatever reason), and you drive on it for any distance at all, there's no way of knowing what condition the sidewall is in. Therefore, the recommended practice is to ALWAYS replace the tire.
