I'm also going to be in the market for an aftermarket FMIC for the E70 35i.

Has anyone had any luck making an aftermarket FMIC fit? What options do we have?

Thanks guys.

FMIC is pointless unless you have a tune and other mods. Stock, I very much doubt you'll see any performance difference. Even with a stage 1 tune I'd be skeptical of anything really noticeable.

This is for a Stage 2 build, then later I'm adding a Stage 1 Pure turbo...

This is my 2nd build on the N5X platform, my last car was a FBO 335XI. I'm trying to piece together a parts list to get to stage 2 on the E70.

Maybe I should have worded my question better...

The question isn't how much HP will a FMIC give a stock car or stage 1 car. The question is who makes a FMIC for the E70 chassis because I'm building a stage 2+ car.

That makes more sense. I just get tired of some of these guys thinking they are going to gain a ton of power from swapping out the stock unit on an otherwise stock setup.

As I posted earlier I've heard some rumblings about Wagner offering a setup for the X5. I personally haven't looked into it but it's a start. Any plans to upgrade the oil cooler with all those mods? It's an often overlooked component but a critical one when pumping out more power.

i looked into this heavily with my stage 2 build.
the OEM E70 N55 FMIC is larger than the OEM e9x FMIC.
by alot.
the end tank pipes are at different angles and different locations, and an upgraded E9x N5x FMIC may not be any more efficient than the OEM.
i never really noticed much heat soak, the biggest contriction when tuning was the intake volume. my turbo was starving for air.

I had read that the E70's FMIC is larger than the E90. It's really good to know from someone who's already gone stage 2 that it works well.

Thanks a lot for the input.

Any chance you have a build thread?

As a few people have already mentioned this, the E70 OEM FMIC is relatively large and considered an upgraded FMIC comparing to the E9X. With that being said, I would think the vendors aren't truly looking for an aftermarket option because our OEM specs are suitable as an aftermarket option in a different platform. If that makes any sense at all.

Yup! It does make sense. I guess I was just underestimating how good the OEM E70 intercooler holds up to modding/increased boost.

Understandable, I know the tune I have I'm experiencing zero issues for still running the OEM FMIC when it's recommended for an upgraded FMIC. Recommended for the N55 on the E9X platform, so knowing ours is bigger I was already good to go for no additional costs.

Are you running Stage 1+ with OEM downpipe? In other words, can we run Stage 1+ on a stock E70 safely?

Does Stage 2 only need a catless DP on the E70?

Thanks for all the info guys.

I'm currently running Stage 1+ Aggressive on mine with OEM downpipes. Only other mod I did was chargepipe. I've run up to ~14.5 psi boost and only seen intake air temps 60 degrees F above ambient while pushing it hard, otherwise it is normally 30 degrees F above ambient temp.

i was running 20psi on my E70 n55 with no issues.
even had a E85 map, but i didnt run it very often.
be aware that the N55 maps OTS are not good for x5.
I was experiencing alot of throttle closure for no reason.
Cobb modified the maps for me after sending logs to them free of charge.
We used the Stage 2+ FMIC as the baseline.
Cobb uses FMIC as the factor for runing higher boost.
where jb4 and other tuners use DP.
with the larger FMIC on E70 it seems to do the trick.

if you do have any questions feel free to PM me.
I no longer have the vehicle and i havent logged since fine tuning the tune with my pro-tuner.

Yes I'm running the MHD stg 1+ stock. DPs are recommended for the stg 2 but since most of our specs are bigger than the E9X platform we could be in luck. I know running the stg 1+ it's been safe the entire time.

Hmm, thanks. I don't think I'm having issues with the OTS Cobb maps. I haven't logged any runs in a while, I'll have to do that sometime again and see if I have the throttle closure issue. Maybe they fixed it in the later releases of the maps/firmware.

Hey guys, thread resurrection I assume there is still nothing out for an aftermarket FMIC for the E70? An option is coming soon from what I hear.

I tuned my car with Eurocharged stage 2 bench tune and they required me at the time to have dp, cp, and drop in filter or short ram intake
