When to sell X5M?
Out of factory's running into 2 yrs extended warranty, love it but, when would it be advisable start thinking on replacement?
Low batt light comes up often and brakes on 5 last mm. Again, not in a hurry, it's been a blast, just planning ahead. I lf I had a job, probably would go from S1 to 2 but, life doesn't always go your way! Thanks for looking and replying. |

My guess. 6 months to 1 year before the end of the extended warranty.
I just had the battery changed for the first time at 80 000 km. I had low battery warnings during cold days. Also, I believe there's a battery profile for short trips that the dealer can program. As for breaks, I'm still with the original pads and disks at 87 000 km. I aim for 100 000 km An ilevel update can help also. I never had a warning with the new battery this winter Last edited by gan23; 03-11-2017 at 04:17 PM.. |

If you love it, why not keep it and continue to enjoy it?
It will cost a lot more to replace it with something comparable versus fixing a few things here and there. |

I agree jjggz, I'd love to keep it for a longer time and probably will do after the warranty expires, consumables are not an issue.
I'd like to consider next big 'consumable' like timing chain or else. For gan23, what battery did you get? I heard there's two options with amp diff making prices ranging from $250-400 |

My 2011 X5M with 90k mikes was 5 months from extended warr exp. $15k in fixes - all covered over 2 years. My options were to keep, knowing all the major systems have been replaced or addressed and car was fit as a fiddle. Or move on thinking I might have a lemon. I started looking around and within a month replaced it with a 2012 X6M with 40k and same ext warr as previous. I opted for peace of mind. And I got back $900 from my ext warr co for canceling early. In hindsight, it was probably a wash. Keeping the X5M would have probably been a positive experience since it had so many new parts. But it only takes one issue to wipe it all away. You could flip a coin.
