Nitrous

Has anyone installed a nitrous kit in their X5?

I am considering a ZEX system and would like to hear any feedback in general. I have Dinan stage 4, Dinan free flow exhaust, and Dinan intercoolers all installed. Currently running with 530 hp and 590 lbs T. Out of software updates so looking for more power...this ZEX system would add 75 more hp via N2O.

Do you like your Dinan intercoolers? Did they give a noticeable gain?

I haven't seen anyone with N2O on here but there is no reason why it wouldn't work. I was thinking about a small shot but I am already running 27lbs of boost so I am more worried about the transmission not handling the power.

FYI: there was a recent post on the forums withion the last few days that I saw, can't remember if it was here, bimmerfest, ot Xoutpost, but it was a X5 with Dinan and N02 setup. A quick search might net you some results.

I really enjoy them, and all of the Dinan upgrades. I did notice a significant gain but I also went from stage 2 to stage 4 and intercoolers at the same time. I really notice the difference in the summer heat.

I am thinking that I will do the headers and see about an intake manifold before I do the Nitrous.

Nitrous would be cheaper and likely easier. The only header upgrade I have heard of is an M5 upgrade I have never heard of intake manifolds being a restriction. Unless you are upgrading your stuff to X5M stuff the X5M turbos are an upgrade for the 50i so maybe the x5M headers and manifold are also upgrades. How much boost are you running? I would also go with a better tune than Dinan if you are serious about making power. Dinan is more for guys that are worried about warranty. I am not saying it's not good but it's not the best.

Good to hear (re header, & manifold) thanks. I hadn't put much research into it. I am not upgrading to M series parts (my next toy will be an M). You know, I am not sure how much boost I am getting. I don't have a gauge to measure it. I am tempted to get a boost gauge...I went from ~404 hp stock to 531 hp after all the Dinan. Yeah, I went with Dinan because I am still under CPO warranty until 2016.

Differences between the N63 and S63 are the turbos (S63 has two twin scrolls), the exhaust manifolds (S63 takes advantage of the twin scrolls), and the intake which on the S63 is very simple and on the N63 is convoluted and (most feel) restrictive to keep the power down.

Those three things along with software (different DMEs) are responsible for 90% of the 155 HP discrepancy between the N63 and S63 engines. That's where to concentrate your efforts and money in my opinion.
