dogs setting off car alarm

We've got two Swedish Vallhunds that frequently occupy the rear seat in our X5. We take them on long road trips and they travel fine. The issue I've run into is sometimes I'll take them on a short errand run into town, and if I leave them in the car (windows cracked, temps are fine, etc, etc) to, for example, make a quick run into the grocery store and grab an item or two, when I come back out they've invariably managed to set off the car alarm.

Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what they are doing to set it off, or how to prevent it from happening?

For years now many / most / all? BMWs have an internal sensor that detects movement and sets off the alarm. I don't see the point myself; I agree with ENTRY points being monitored but why in the world would you want to monitor the interior? Maybe if they bypass a door or window and cut a hole in your roof??

My wife tells a humorous (not to her) story of when her parents left her sleeping in their BMW during a European Delivery vacation, and went into a restaurant for dinner. She woke up in the car alone, moved, and the alarm went off. According to her the doors wouldn't open either (?) and she had to wait TWENTY MINUTES for her parents to finally come outside and deactivate it (exaggeration? Not according to her!)...

The simple solution here would be to LOCK the car but not set the alarm... But I don't think BMW has a way to do that. Maybe you can lock the doors manually with the key and it won't set the alarm?

When on my euro delivery trip I realized I had a problem with the sensor in my car and the alarm would constantly go off when the car was locked even when there was nothing to trigger the sensor. I don’t know why this worked, but if I held the key up to one of the windows when locking the car it would disable the sensor. Maybe give that a shot.

That was the m3, not x5, but same alarm parts..

Hitting the lock button 3 times works for me - I believe it turns off the tilt sensors while keeping the door sensors in action.

I've been meaning to search to see if someone knows how to code out those sensors entirely

ohh, so it's not some motion sensor inside the cabin? It's the tilt sensor being triggered by movement in the car?
If so it must be sensitive. My wife only weighs 98 lbs...

The dogs are 30 and 40 pounds, and they set it off within minutes of me locking the car.

It could be motion, tilt, or both - I just know my dog was setting it off and the hitting the lock button multiple times has worked. It may only be two presses, but for some reason I have always done three

It’s an easy fix! ( it’s in the manual)
Look towards the mirror throw the front window, Press the lock button, and press it again.
You will see that the led wil burn for a short time, then it will blink.
Then the angel and interior sensor are disabeld.
But just for that time, you will have to do that every time you want to disable them.

I had the same issue. Setting off the motion alarm. Hit the lock button 2x.
