Just dropped my 2013 X6 50i off at dealership to have battery tested and they indicated a major engine recall just announced at dealers. They've not yet sent out notices, but sounds extensive. I'm the first one they've even looked at in this dealership as I just happened to be there today.
They are keeping it all day for tests and indicated recall is in (2) parts. First part is a pretty significant amount of parts they have to replace on engine. They'll then test, if fail then they said next modification could require pulling engine out...yikes! I don't have a lot of detail, will post if if learn more. Interested to see if others have heard anything as well. Correction: I believe this may be "N63", not "N83" engine... It's the 8 cylinder. |

It is for the N63. I was at the dealership on Wednesday and my SA told me about it. Has to do with broken timing chains. She said something about the software they are using to analyze and diagnose was not functioning properly and they might have to pull the engines. Was pretty unclear about it but it does not sound like a quick fix. There are some other posts about it on various sites.
Mine is going in on Tuesday.

I took mine in for accelerated battery discharge and they told me the notice just came out. They've not "officially" announced it to owners yet, but wanted to test it for the recall since it would be there all day regardless.

I just dropped my X5 off for the "increased battery discharge" issue now. What was the outcome and what was causing it? It has been a pain and today my heat was only working out of the defrost when on "auto".

Jalndrs, no outcome yet. They told us Sat the battery and et all are fine (as they've told us on a prior visit), but they're diving deeper now. They said that a fuel pump is known to cause this so they're checking this. They also think it could be attributed to other recall items. I don't know full scope of what they're changing out - they said it was fine regarding timing but there are other items they're replacing.

My dealer called it more of a "customer service campaign". He did note that on all of the N63 engines (including the N63tu) the battery is now a maintenance item and will be replaced automatically every second oil change provided the car is under warranty.

so I called the dealership again and they said that if you type ur VIN on Bmwusa.com/recall and if it doesnt show up yet…you have to wait until it says there is a recall for your vehicle….
Am I getting the right info? or can I just go in and schedule an appointment with the dealership? |

My dealer called it a recall, but indicated only dealers new about it so far (announced to them last Wed?).
Was more than timing chains. They tested this and it was ok, but replaced other parts. I've not picked it up yet - I'll update the parts if it's in receipt (obviously BMW paid). I did get a new battery to help the discharge issue (reason we brought it in to begin with). |
