X6 Arrived Unexpectedly Today

I was at my dealer today looking at some other cars, not really expecting anything since the car I have on order was not due for about another month. To my surprise they had just recieved a "brass hat" X6, fully optioned, very few miles, and at a $10K discount but still to be sold "as new". I was getting impatient, so jumped at the deal. So instead of monoco blue/black, I have space silver with chateau leather. More (better) pics later.

I'm jealous. Why the deep discount. I'm waiting for a similar car. Oyster interior.

"Brass hat" means it is not a demo, pre se, but driven by a BMW exec for a while before being sold as new. So, a few thousand miles driven by someone else and not ALL the precise options I had ordered. It is also last year's model.

So, on the one hand I am "settling" for less than the perfect X6 that I wanted, but its pretty close, and the price was around $71K despite the sticker of $85K.

Sealing the deal was that the lease residual was calculated as of today, based on the 2010 depreciation schedule, thus 58% of $85 K in 3 years. That was huge! There is no way an '09 X6 will be worth that much 3 years from now. So, I could not pass the deal from the $$$ perspective.

Sounds like a great deal. When I was getting my new 530i back in 2004, they offered me a similar deal. I didn't go for it, but I should have. Payments would have been so much lower, but the HUD and Nav were things I knew I would regret not waiting for. What's the wait time for an X6 anyway? I waited about 4 months for my 530i.

don't buy into that. I ordered in November. I am told that is a rear view camera shortage that is holding up the order. I don't think the dealers can predict the supply of a third party's part. I have just resigned to mine coming in when it gets here. I was given the option to order without the camera, but did not want to compromise.

Seems like there are always regrets either way.

They told me 2-3 weeks on the X6 about a month ago, and it would still be a month from now to delivery.

How were you able to backout of your current order without a hassle?

I think that since I purchased one of there cars anyway, they simply allowed me to back out. My salesman said he would have no problem selling the one I ordered. It has fairly conservative color choices: monoco blue with black.

I suppose if I had ordered water blue with sakhir orange leather I would have had a problem. :-)

Probably going to be more like 8 weeks. I ordered mine a month ago and it still doesn't even have a production date yet.

Congrats on the X6! I would have gotten that exact color combo had I not chosen Alpine White. Just curious on what kind of a payment that equated to? When I bought my 2008 it was around $1850/month due to bad residuals at the time (I think 48%) and when I bought the 2009 residuals were a little better at 52% but still not great and payment was still north of $1200/mo

Residual was 58% of the $85K MSRP and selling price was about $71K. Had I put nothing down, payment would be about $950/month. The deal was tantamount to getting new car financing on a used car.

Had I stuck with the car I ordered, payment would be $1500.

I did this kind of thing once before. I was about to pay cash for a new Grand Cherokee base. Then I saw the fully optioned Overland model and said "how much for that?" They said, "oh thats being driven by the dealership owner". Short story, it had 4000 miles, but they gave me the new car deal (0% for 60 months) and dropped price from $46K to $33K. (it was when gas was $4.50 per gallon, also).

Truthfully, I trade cars often and lose a lot of money, so I 'm no car finance genius. I simply got lucky to be there at the moment when the "dealer driven" car showed up. A lot of people would not want the deal since the car is slightly used.

I have a Space Grey 3er, it looks sweet. The X6 looks even better than I thought in the same color. Looks as if I will have matching color vehicles in the future.
