Couldn't Do it...Couldn't Leave BMW...
So…
I was all set to go pick up a Range Rover Sport HSE Luxury on Friday morning to replace the totaled X5. But on Wednesday night I kept having second thoughts… Why would I risk putting my 16 month old son in something other than a BMW? I knew the X5 likely saved my life and I loved it… So…on Thursday I called several dealers and put a deposit on a Space Grey 2011 X5 3.5 to pick up the next day. Nicely optioned…nappa leather, leather dash, premium, convenience…. When I arrived at the dealer I saw my car waiting for me…and another Space Gray X5 right next to it. I looked at the sticker on that one…and it had: PREMIUM PACKAGE CONVENIENCE PACKAGE COLD WEATHER PACKAGE TECH PACKAGE PREMIUM SOUND PACKAGE CARGO COVER COMFORT ACCESS ADAPTIVE DRIVE**** LEATHER DASH HEAD UP DISPLAY MULTI CONTOUR SEATS ROOF RAILS REAR CLIMATE PACKAGE HEATED REAR SEATS AUTO HIGH BEAMS SMART PHONE INTEGRATION COMBOX RUNNING BOARDS… Basically, a loaded car…except this one was an X5 35d…the Diesel variant. So I asked my salesperson if I could drive it. WOW…it was a beast. Felt like I lost nothing off the line from the X5 4.8 I was coming out of. From a price standpoint…the sticker was an extra 10k, but I got the following rebates: $2500 Holiday Cash $1500 Voucher for participating in BMW Accident Research Program $3500 off for the Diesel $1800 Tax Credit $1000 BMW CCA Membership Rewards program With a lease based on 500 over invoice…it came out about even. Now…first impression after driving it for one weekend: Pro’s: • The Diesel is a beast. Feels as Torquey as the old 4.8 • I never thought I’d like the drive of any SUV better than my old X5…but the “Adaptive Drive” completely changes the ride. No lean…muted bumps…it’s like driving a 3 series. I’d never again get an X5 without Adaptive Drive • Love the Premium Sound and head-up display • New I-Drive and NAV is a HUGE improvement over the awful old version • 600 miles on tank of gas…is just awesome • Auto High Beams is great out in the country Negatives: • Sounds like a paddle boat when idling • Ugly 18 inch Wheels • The diesel gas pumps all stink…I had to buy gloves • I have a small scratch from the douches in my garage so I now need touch paint(I live in Manhattan, comes with the Territory) • Can’t figure out how to setup mobile office with my blackberry • Wasn’t impressed with the Nevada Leather last time, and im still not… Thanks for the advice guys…I could not be happier… |

Congrats, I also came back to BMW when I thought I may not have. I had a 335 that had a bunch of issues but was hit head on and it was totalled.
Can I ask how you got the BMW accident research program voucher? Did they ask you or did you know about it somehow? I wonder if it is too late for me to get that, I've never heard of it. I also was a month short of getting the BMW CCA membership reward I also agree about the Nevada leather. I had it in my old 330ci which was really nice, but then had it in my 335 and now my x5 and it looks and feels too much like leatherette. I will absolutely get Nappa next time around |

Congratulations - I am also a former 4.8 car driver that migrated into a diesel. Love it!
I ordered my 3.5d with the Nappa leather and dash, love it! I had it in my 4.8. I can't believe I did not get the following options: Spare tire! Heads Up Display Auto Headlights Since I had it almost fully loaded, I should have upgraded more! I love the way the car performs, I love driving it on the freeway or any other place I can get away with driving fast! How did you walk away from the car accident, the car was totalled? wow! How do you become a member of BMW MCA or whatever it is called for the discount> |

Congrats! Diesel ftw!
Yours is almost identical to ours except ours is a '10. I agree with you about the wheels. We just use our OEM rims as our winter beaters and picked up new 20's for the summer. |

Here are the accident details...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459595 For the BMW CCA: bmwcca.org As far as the 1500, I got that from calling BMW NA, telling them about the accident, and then somebody called to follow up and offered me the incentive... |

You did yourself a favor. I traded in a Full Sized Supercharged Range Rover with 48,xxx miles on it. It was a sharp vehicle and stood out more than the X5's but a very unreliable vehicle. Every time something needed fix or replaced on the vehicle it took a minimum of two weeks to get the part. I traded the vehicle in still waiting for a part that had been on order for four months...The RR felt handled more like a truck/suv where the BMW handles more like a sports car.

thanks for the first impression write-up; I too love the diesel and have had my 2010 X35d for a little more than a year now - by far, the best vehicle I have ever owned. when I wear out this machine I will buy another BMW DIESEL product
