X5 Cold Start Problems? Jerky Engine....
Hi, i'm new here so aplogies if this is in the wrong place & hello!
I have just purchased a BMW X5 on a 52 plate. It didn't come with any service history and after calling BMW UK seems it hasn't had a dealer service since 2005 & i'm unsure if it's had much TLC since then. Anyway when I bought it I was aware that it needed new brake discs and pads. After driving it for a day the engine management light/ ABS lights activated. I assumed this was as it needed new brakes pads/ discs so I got this sorted and it seemed to cure the problem and ran fine for a few days. A couple of days later I topped up the engine oil and anti freeze as these were both low (this could have something to do with my new problem?!). The next day (it has been -10 here) it fired up fine but immediately the engine management light and ABS lights were back on again an the car went into limp home mode with a really jerky engine. After driving about for a bit it all dropped off and went fine. It's doing the same again this morning & my mehcanic is currently on a cruise and really don't want to have to take it to someone else unless I really have to. Can anyone give me any ideas what this might be & how to cure/ prevent it? Thanks! |
