Bike rack installed

I just had my windows tinted and bike rack installed through BMW. For those interested, the install and removal was very simple.

The bike rack is really cool,

I'm curious what the hitch looks like without the rack on it.

Does the hitch come with rear power for trailer lights? I wondered if you could pull a small trailer, say for a bike or a motorcycle.

That is a good question. I did not keep the rack attached on the vehicle for very long but the PDS did not go crazy when I put it in reverse but it did beep. I'm assuming the alarm may be more frequent once I attach a bike to the rack.

The rack does not require a hitch. I will take a couple more pics to show where the rack the attaches to the vehicle...

Yes and it is quite annoying. You have to hit the P assist button and turn it off or it will drive you crazy

That looks very clean. Thanks for the picture. Do you have a picture straight from the back?

Post one with bikes on the rack please if you find the time.

That rack is cool. It connects to the tow bolt hole instead of a traditional hitch.

I went with the regular hitch because I wanted a specific bike rack carrier and not BMW's.

BMW's rack is the cheapest way to go if you like the rack though.

Does the rack, fit on every X6, or is this optional?

Every X5/X6, 1 series, etc. Just about any BMW with the two tow bolts on the bumber.

However, it only works on a BMW.

I can't remember where I got this photo but it was the only one I could find with an actual receiver style hitch installed on a X6.

I'm guessing that the piece of plastic bumper section (red box) snaps out of the fascia? How hard is it to remove and reinstall?

Does the bumper fascia (blue box) have a plastic section that comes off for the receiver style hitch? I ask because the BMW website and product lit are not very clear on this feature. Does the dealer have to install the hitch to protect the warranty?

Nope. On three. It comes with support for two and you can add an extension for one more bike.

Thanks for the helpful post. A couple questions if you don't mind:

Can you open the hatch with bikes and the rack attached?

What does the bumper look like without the rack installed (is there anything sticking out)?

The bike rack is $500, right? How much did it cost out the door?

Thanks much!

I was referring to my after makret rack. You need to contact a dealer to find out on BMW's 3rd bike option, I have never seen one.
