good car for high school car club

proud x6 owner!!
i am the president of our high school's car club, and our project this year will be to buy a older used car to work on i am hoping to pick a bmw to work on. any suggestions on which one we should purchase to work on?

Restore a 1968 BMW 2000 CS. It's a classic. At least you could still work on cars at that time.

For a high school car club I would think both availability and cheap are big considerations. While the 2000 and 2002 are indeed classics, I would guess parts are probably scarce. I think the heritage associated with a BMW four cylinder would be awesome though.

Maybe something based on the M42 engine which I think could be found in both the E30 and E36.
