Guys, so why is the 2011 X6 coming out already, we are still in March?

Is there a facelift of some sort?

Whats going on? fill me in

Almost the full BMW lineup is making the switch to 2011 around March/April.

I don't know other than BMW doesn't seem to follow any convention regarding model year releases.

Many years ago, in the US anyway, new model year vehicles were released around the end of the calendar year. Then a couple of manufactures wanted to get a jump on the competition so they moved their model year releases to September (or there abouts) and the industry followed. Now BMW is releasing their new-next year vehicles at the beginning of the prior calendar year.

It makes the model year distinctions/nomenclature meaningless. At this rate, I can imagine the conversation you have about model year 2012's:

You, "Hey, I just took delivery of my 2012 X6."

Your friend, "2012, you did? But it only November of 2010?"

You, "I know, that means it's better than all the other 2010's and 2011's! Isn't that cool!"

Your friend, "Yeah. . .sure, but what's the difference between a 2010 and 2012?"

You, "Nothing really, but for the 2012's, the cigarette lighter is no longer an option - you know the Green Police and Save The Worlder's don't like cigarette lighters. You've heard of them right?"

Your friend, "Well you have fun with that new X6. . . but hey I just thought of something. When you get ready to sell that car in 2014, won't that 2012 be almost 4 years old rather than just 2?"

You, "Damn it! You had to ruin everything!"

A little exaggeration, but you get the idea. FWIW
