Disappointed in recent X5 news

Several other sites, now seem to mention that the X5 will not be revealed until at least the Geneva Motor Show next Spring..

and that there won't be any upgrades to the 6 cylinder motors.. only the 8 cylinder turbo from the X6...

Weren't there a lot of posts this past summer saying a change at Detroit?

AND the x6 35i into the X5?

AND the 735d diesel upgrade for the X5?

above and plus the x3 now not coming out for a year and may or may not have the X5 35i engine?

I'm personally frustrated if this is true because my 335i goes off lease
in a few mos and I'm ready to make a move to a BMW SUV.. but somewhat of a performance version (X5/X6 8 cylinder will cost too much)

The stars seemed in alignment for a lot of nice choices next Spring...

revised higher performance 6 cylinder X5's, new X3 with twin turbo 6, or maybe splurge on the x6 with performance package..

Anyone else not happy.. thoughts?

I would take an X5/6 diesel. Fuel will be shooting up to $5/gallon before long. BMW is working to get rid of large engines to meet CAFE standards.

Expect 4/6 cyl engines to be the main stream with V8/12 being phased out or significantly reduced.

Mercedes is already on this track with the shut down large engine production. In less than 7 years, Mercedes-Benz plans to ditch petroleum-powered vehicles from its lineup. Focusing on electric, fuel cell, and biofuels, the company is revving up research in alternative fuel sources and efficiency.

BMW will have no choice but to follow. Yes follow rather than lead this time. their bloated V10's/V12's were a waste fo R&D and now they have to play catch up. BMW has 1 series diesels, we don't get them here yet. The U.S. market does not even know BMW made diesels selling very few. They have a lot of work to do if they want to compete.

Most of the posts you are refering to for next year's Detroit were only rumors from dubious sources that people are only too willing to believe because they like it. Just wait for real announcements from BMW.

As for your lease, that is one inconvenience. The leases always end at fixed date and the timing may not be perfect for anyone's needs. I was in a similar position myself earlier this year with my leased Z4MC. Fortunately, my dealer was willing to take it back early so I could buy an M3.

BMW will let you extend your lease... I've done it several times.
