Need HELP! Finding remote(12vdc) for aft amp???
I am struggling to find a remote (12vdc) trigger to turn on my after market amp. It is for a 2011 X6M with individual audio. My factory amp is fiber optic so no signal. I can use rear aux power socket but only turns on with engine. Anyone been down this road?

It's not a terrible thing to have your amp on, with ignition on. It draws very little current, and doesn't affect the life of the amp. It's just a non-ideal config.
You could try to tap into the antenna, I assume it's a powered on(amplified antenna). Otherwise, it's normal for an amp to be on, even if a headunit is off. As an example, my bluetooth and street guidance wouldn't work otherwise...

Ah I may have not been clear, I want the amp on with the ignition or exactly when the factory amp turns on..but I just realized when you get in X6 if you push start once the factory amp turns on, if you hit start button again then ignition, lights etc all turn on and as well the aux jacks,,,so this may be acceptable that I tap off aux jack,,I wish i could find a source on first start button push, but send may due...its better then having to have engine on to hear aftermarket amp.

Most installs I've seen, use the rear 12V outlet in the trunk for the turn-on lead for an amp. Which turns on when the acc or car is on. Not with the radio directly.
JL audio actually makes a BMW amp/speaker kit for $1300. It includes, wire, tweeters, xovers, a OEM Cleansweep module, a 5ch amp, and custom brackets for the amp and xovers to be hidden away in an X5/E70. Not a bad system IMO. Perhaps I'm not a fan on the price, but for OEM like fitment, the price is warranted. They use I think an audio signal sense to turn on the Cleansweep, which in turn provides a switched 12V for any amp to use. Many amps when using line-level inputs can power on from that. Though they are hit or miss IMO, and if not enough voltage passes, you have to run up the volume to get the amp to kick on, or there are little 12V modules you can buy for about $20-30 bucks that can work too. I think basically... You have options, many options to get the amp turned on.

I just installed a JL Stealthbox in an X5M with enhanced audio. Best option I could come up with was the 12v outlet that is switched off when you lock the car or fully power down.
If you are integrating with the OEM headunit to power more than just a sub, you will need to switch to MOST. The DIRAC amp has a lot of signal processing and weird crossover points that are tuned specifically to the drivers and environment. So highlevel outputs are not going to work very well, the sound will end up muddy and difficult to tune. |
