I blame the run-flats and not so much the 20" wheels. Though I'm sure the 20" wheels are not the light to begin with either, but I aint' buying some $6k HRE forged wheels.

I'd rather think it has something to do with the fact they are 315 in width. I'm sure 265s would create less rolling resistance, thus resulting in better MPGs.

I'm in the mind set that removing rotational mass and unsprung weight is much more important than rolling resistance. But it's a contributing factor indeed!

Yea tire sizes tend to affect the mpg. Width and diameter, also run-flats contribute to that. Anyway regarding the 50i I'm afraid it will be a considerable difference in mpg compared to the 35i in city driving, i do like 80% city and 20% highway. But like you guys said i need to test drive it and i already booked the test drive for the 50i to next saturday.

i can't imagine the 50i being that much worse, and you can still get a tune for even more power and better MPG's around town.

Thanks for the reply, 15mpg is not that bad for a heavy tank like the x5. But it is a big difference from my e90 which is 35mpg(my best) city and highway combined and spirited driving.

I'm same as you, 90% city driving. We get 13.5 to 14.0 around town in a 50i, which sounds about right if you're getting 14.9 in a 35i. Neither are very good! |

Maybe so, but updated coronas alone cannot justify spending @ 2k more for a year newer model.

That's about the amount of money you'll spend on upgrading them, plus it also means you have an extra year of warranty. Personally, if I would have had the choice, and the vehicle was like for like, I would have spent the extra $2K and gotten the LED coronas for a 2012 as opposed to a 2011.
