2010 X5M Winter Wheels options?

Hi! Just recently bought a 2010 e70 X5M. I'm looking into investing a set of wheels dedicated for winter.

I'm not sure what's best for the e70, but on my f30 I opted for the square setup for the winters and smaller wheels with fatter non-RFT tires

What do you guys suggest? I still would like smaller wheel size with fatter tires, but staggered vs square? Size recommendations? Run flats?

Thanks I'm advance!

So i run some 333 style wheels with Conti DWS06 as my winters on my 13' x5m, 20" 275 fronts, 315 rears. but i've seen a lot of people run the smaller 19" 298 style wheels on their x5ms for winters. Some one has them for sale and i've seen a bunch out there for sale.

The smaller diameter wheel allows for higher tread wear and more winter tire options that also are probably cheaper.

I have 20" 215 style wheels and I run 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 rear. There are tons of winter tire options in size. Hence why I switched from 22s which I could only run in summer, I don't want to buy a second set of wheels.

Important Note: The e70/e71 X5M, X6M and regular X6 have a different rear hub (72.5mm bore) so you will need adapters for regular e70 X5 wheels (74.1mm bore) if thats what youre planning on getting.

When you're saying fatter I believe you mean thicker sidewalls. Do you care about how wide the tires are?

I believe the winter rim/tire kit from bmw is 275 on all four corners. 315 rears are definitely an option, but there's a trade-off. In general narrower tires will be better for snowy roads and with spacers you can make the wheels stick out the same amount so it doesn't look bad. You just wont have the ridiculously wide rears visible from behind.

If you're doing road trips to the mountains or something, i'd probably play it somewhat safer and do square 275s. If you're just cruising around town 315s that look a little meaner will do fine.

Also one final note: most if not all of the 20" wheels for the e70/e71 are staggered so to go square youll stretch the rear tires a bit which could look off.

I was thinking about the 298m wheels. They are 19x9 square setup and seem to fit the X5M without any spacers. Any experience with those wheels?

Thanks for all the information!

If others have done it and they clear the bigger X5M brakes then its definitely an option. I believe they are meant for 255 width tires which may look narrow on an X5M.

If youre fine with that I think you would need hub adapters at the very least though, something like the item below. They make adapters that are spacers also (more expensive), and you will likely want spacers to fill out the wheel well a little better. Hopefully someone with more experience than me on the matter will chime in.

I'd also talk with ECS or another vendor to make sure youre getting the right parts also.
