x6m s63 engine failure

i havent done much yet. had a friend look at it and so far said there was a bunch of oil leaks here and there but mostly that cylinder 3 has no compression.

i have experience in rebuilding honda engines and i have a relative that is a honda master tech and has rebuilt hundreds of engines. obviously a BMW engine is a different animal. the one shop said the VANOS timing will be a problem.

i figured the best plan of attack is to tow it to my relatives shop and drop the oil pan and take off the valve covers to see the status of the timing chain, cams, and oil pump.

any advice would be greatly appreciated on this 2010 bmw x6m s63 engine.

Bump for this since I just rounded 70k. Even though BMW's non-recall for the N63 is out there, MANY of the recall parts are shared with the S63...including the timing chain.

I had the N63 campaign performed on my X6 and from what i recall, the work order mentioned checking timing chain for stretch or something along those lines. Now, the timing chains on my vehicle were fine according to the work order and did not need to be replaced. If I do end up having a failure of the chains, would i have any recourse since BMW checked and gave their stamp of approval?

I've read threads of people passing inspections on their driveshafts and then still having catastrophic failures to where it took out the whole engine...some covered everything, some were told to kick rocks. This stuff is reminiscent of the M62 engines where it's going to be common knowledge to just replace the chains and guides on our own since BMW just wants to wash it's hands of everything nowadays.

did you have BMW replace your timing chain on the S63 engine?
