Fuel consumption on 5.0
All - I'm posting on behalf of a buddy of mine who's buying a 2012 5.0 Sport - I have a 2011 550 that can be a thirsty mother when I drive it 'enthusiastically' - but is fairly decent when driven in normal mode.
He just wants to know real life day to day consumption on a 5.0 before he pulls the trigger else, the logical side of him will cut in and he'll get a 3.5.

LOL - Others who drive SIGNIFICANT city stop and go traffic are getting as low as 11 or 12 MPG & some are getting UNDER 10MPG so the driving requirements are ESSENTIAL on the X5s
Here is one guy who is getting 9.6MPG. There are a lot of other replies in this same thread that show what others are getting http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=659263 Last edited by ndabunka; 12-12-2012 at 02:16 AM.. |

I'm getting at around 11mpg on my X5M (mostly city driving.) I had "some" regrets not getting a 5.0 due to gas mileage of the M but I see I made the "better" decision. I do drive somewhat aggressively but not crazy.

I drive mostly in the city and get right around 12.0 MPG. Honestly, I have never bought a car for the MPG. What is shocking is my wife is getting 13.5 MPG in a 2012 Mini Countryman.

About 13.5 in city driving. As it gets colder, that can drop as low as 12. Plan on about 2MPG better with the 35i. Nothing huge.
BTW, highway normally around 22MPG with my 50i. Our Clubman S gets 29MPG in the city however.

Most of the Diesel's are averaging in the low to mid-20's for city driving. I have about a 50/50 mix and am getting around 24.5 in my 2012 Diesel so if fuel mileage is a concern, you may want to expand your consideration to include the X5d

although I've seen single digits, on a regular highway drive I'm getting about 16-18 mpg. And I have 22" wheels and other tuning mods. Before I was getting 18-20, so I'm pretty happy with it.

I get 14-15 on my daily commute, in lots of stop and go highway traffic and 19-20 pure interstate. With lots of long trips I can keep my overall average above 17.

I'm really pleased with our gas consumption in the 5.0. Get low 20's easy on highway and average almost 18 in suburban stop and go. Pretty impressive for a vehicle as heavy and powerful as this car is. Extremely pleased with the power and gas mileage. If you drive the vehicle and get used to the power, you could care less about the mileage, really. The power delivery and transmission are just amazing. The X5 5.0 is my favorite BMW that I have ever owned. And I've owned a lot...

if fuel consumption is a factor, i hear the cayenne diesel gets close to 30 on the highway...if not, and neither is money, i'd go with the 50i for the sound of that monster v8.
