Winter Wheel Set Up

I got my X6M used in April and the tires were pretty badly worn. I purchased a set of aftermarket wheels for summer hoping to use the stock rims for a winter set up. My tire guy, who I trust pretty well, says they are too wide for decent winter driving and I will be sliding all over. So the search begins for a decent winter set up. The tire guy suggests 18" or 19" rims with bigger sidewalls, although I would prefer at least the 19" option for looks. A quick look says that the BMW suggestion is the 19" 298M wheel they offer with a 255 tire. Does anyone run this set up? What other set up is anyone else running that combines practical use for winter driving and a good look on the X6M? I know it's early and I have time, but I would rather make sure I get what I want/need early and have it ready to go.

I run 19x9 and 19x10.5 TSW Nurburgring with Vredestein snow tires on my X5m. Great in the snow, looks fine. Tires are 255 in the front and 285 in the rear. I had no issues with traction (they are a dedicated snow tire). Total cost was less than 2500, which is probably less than the 298's alone without tires.

I'm running Pirelli Scorpion Winter Ice & Snow 255s square in the winter.

It gets pretty damn icey around here so I had to ditch the staggered look for the winter.

I run similar rims and tires on my 2011 X6 5.0

I am also going with 255 on 19" rims for the winter. I had the same on my X5 before this car and it worked well. Having a harder time than I expected to find 19" rims that will work on the X6M though
